Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are making preparations for the SEC championship game, where they will play the Texas Longhorns, whom they defeated 30–15 earlier this season. Smart made an intriguing remark about Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning prior to this important game.
The Texas Longhorns boast one of the strongest quarterback rosters in college football, featuring the talented Quinn Ewers, along with Arch Manning, who is considered one of the top rising prospects. Due to Ewers’ struggles with multiple injuries this season, both quarterbacks have had the opportunity to play. This depth at the position makes Texas one of the most well-stocked teams at quarterback in the country
In their final regular season victory over the Texas A&M Aggies, head coach Steve Sarkisian shocked supporters by using Manning for multiple plays. Ewers had been battling an ankle ailment lately. Consequently, Smart disclosed that Georgia is getting ready as though Texas would use both Manning and Ewers against them in their major rematch.
HornSports reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Kirby Smart mentioned Georgia has been preparing for both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning this week, following Manning’s expanded role in the previous game.
Given that it appears Ewers is positioned to receive the majority of snaps under center, Smart’s admission is shocking. Georgia is taking drastic steps to make sure they will be prepared for whatever Texas offers to them because Smart doesn’t want to be caught off guard if Sarkisian deploys Manning again on specific plays.
At the very least, Sarkisian has made it harder for Smart to prepare for this game, regardless of whether he plans to use Manning the way he did against Texas A&M. It’s also important to consider the possibility that Sarkisian lacks the element of surprise that he possessed versus the Aggies.
Given the likelihood that both Ewers and Manning will play, it’s reasonable to assume that expectations are high for this game after their turbulent matchup earlier in the regular season. Kickoff is set at 4 p.m. EST on Saturday, December 7.
