On Thursday, Tony White, who served as Nebraska’s defensive coordinator, was appointed to the same role at Florida State.
White, a two-time nominee for the Broyles Award for the nation’s top assistant coach, has been with Nebraska for the past two seasons. His hiring comes three days after Florida State named former UCF head coach Gus Malzahn as their offensive coordinator.
White, 45, will replace Adam Fuller, who was dismissed as defensive coordinator by head coach Mike Norvell last month. Fuller, along with offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, was among three assistant coaches let go following a 52-3 loss to Notre Dame.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Tony White to the Nole Family in this crucial position,” Norvell said. “His aggressive and innovative defensive schemes are challenging for opposing offenses and allow playmakers to excel. Tony has proven his ability to lead elite defenses against top-tier teams, and I’m eager to see how he can help elevate our program.”
Before his time at Nebraska, White was Arizona State’s defensive passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach in 2019 and served as Syracuse’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2020 to 2022.
Florida State ended the season with a 2-10 record, following a 31-11 loss to rival Florida on Saturday.
Former Florida State QB makes a second visit to the transfer portal
With the opening of the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday, December 9, another former Florida State quarterback is in the process of moving.
With one season of eligibility left, Tate Rodemaker, a transfer from Southern Miss, logged in to the site on Thursday night. Rodemaker started seven of his nine games during the 2024 season while playing for the Golden Eagles. Prior to the end of a 1-11 season, the program sacked former head coach Will Hall.
For 985 yards and seven touchdowns to seven interceptions, Rodemaker completed 98 of 164 passes. In the regular season finale loss against Troy at the end of November, he recorded a season-high 234 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. In three years, Rodemaker will be looking for a third program.
The first four years of the Georgia native’s career were spent at Florida State. Rodemaker spent the majority of that time as a backup, but he was called into action in late 2023 when former star quarterback Jordan Travis had a season-ending injury. Although Rodemaker was hurt during the Seminoles’ road victory in Gainesville, he was unable to participate in the team’s ultimate ACC Championship triumph over Louisville.
Brock Glenn, a true freshman, was put in a difficult situation when Rodemaker quit the squad a few days prior to the Orange Bowl. In 22 games, three of which were starts, he completed 68/118 throws for 901 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions while playing for the Seminoles.
In 2025, Florida State is expected to have three quarterbacks on scholarship: true freshman Kevin Sperry, sophomore Luke Kromenhoek, and redshirt sophomore Brock Glenn. It is anticipated that the program will use the gateway to bring in a skilled signal-caller.
