Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand wasn’t just dominating on the ice against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night—he was also shutting down Paul Bissonnette’s lighthearted jabs. Marchand’s two second-period goals powered the Bruins to a 4–2 victory, doubling as a response to the playful taunts from the former player and current NHL on TNT analyst.
Before the game, Bissonnette had poked fun at Marchand’s power-play performance and jokingly “suspended” him from the “Mr. TNT” title in a comedic segment. Marchand answered the challenge with a standout performance and later joined the TNT crew to keep the banter going.
“Scoring goals feels great,” Marchand said. “It’s whatever it takes. I know you haven’t experienced that, but it’s a good feeling. I’m fine with riding coattails—just like you’ve been riding [Ryan] Whitney’s coattails all the way to Spittin’ Chiclets,” he quipped, referencing Bissonnette’s popular podcast.
Earlier, Bissonnette had teased Marchand about benefiting from teammate David Pastrnak’s elite playmaking, which set the stage for more back-and-forth.
Reflecting on the fun, Marchand noted how chirping was once a bigger part of his game. “I miss it—it used to happen every shift,” he said. “Back in the day when we faced off, it was constant. It’s something I didn’t want to give up.”
Marchand’s performance on Wednesday brought his season totals to 10 goals and 10 assists. With three consecutive wins, the Bruins now boast a 14-11-3 record, sitting just three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division.
