David Montgomery, the Detroit Lions running back, delivered an impressive performance in the team’s Thanksgiving Day victory over the Chicago Bears, recording 88 yards on 21 carries and 36 yards on three receptions. The game held special meaning for Montgomery, who spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Bears before joining the Lions in 2023.

Reflecting on Beating His Former Team
Facing his former team was a particularly satisfying experience for Montgomery. He openly expressed how much the win meant to him, saying, “It’s always good being able to get a win on somebody that didn’t think I was good enough,” as reported by Sports Illustrated. He added, “I love and appreciate Chicago for giving me a shot and an opportunity, but I was happy to get that win.”

Montgomery’s years in Chicago cemented his reputation as a dependable and resilient back, but his move to Detroit has allowed him to thrive in a new offensive system. Defeating his former team added a personal touch to an already strong season, as Montgomery continues to contribute to the Lions’ success.

Regarding the Introduction of Jahmyr Gibbs

A pregame experience Montgomery shared with his backfield companion, Jahmyr Gibbs, added even more significance to his day. Known as “Sonic and Knuckles,” the pair was debuted together prior to the game, and Montgomery talked about how special it was for him to be with Gibbs at such a special time.

Why Lions Running Back David Montgomery Ate a Carrot Instead of Turkey After Thanksgiving Game

It’s really awesome. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced,” Montgomery remarked. “Jahmyr is my younger brother, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have him in my life not only as a football player but also as a person. It’s really awesome to be able to share that experience and that moment with him, as well as the general progress of the Sonic and Knuckles project.

Beyond the football field, Montgomery and Gibbs share a strong bond, with Montgomery highlighting the value of their friendship and teamwork. Their already close bond is strengthened by the fan-favorite nickname “Sonic and Knuckles,” which provides an additional element of fun and companionship.

Gazing Ahead

Montgomery’s heartfelt reminiscence on his time in Chicago and his unique friendship with Gibbs, together with his performance against the Bears, demonstrate how far he’s come since joining the NFL. Montgomery’s bond with Gibbs is just one illustration of the positive vibe that permeates Detroit’s locker room. Montgomery continues to be a vital component of the Lions’ offensive success with his outstanding play and leadership both on and off the field. Montgomery’s services will remain an essential component of the Lions’ strategy as they strive for the playoffs.

NL Contender Signs Ex-Angels Reliever

Earlier this week, ex-Los Angeles Angels reliever Kolton Ingram signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Ingram has had a whirlwind 2024 season, playing for seven teams, including the Braves. He began the year with the Angels, who designated him for assignment in late January. In early February, the Detroit Tigers claimed him off waivers, but he was designated for assignment again just 15 days later. Five days after that, the New York Mets picked him up, but they also designated him in April.

Although Ingram made four appearances with the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate, his 7.20 ERA during those appearances led to his designation for assignment. After being claimed by the Texas Rangers, Ingram played in two games for their Triple-A squad before being claimed by the St. Louis Cardinals after being designated for assignment.

Before being designated for assignment at the end of June, Ingram pitched for the Cardinals’ Triple-A team for a month and a half, recording a 3.93 ERA and three saves. Ingram’s final stop for the 2024 season came when he was claimed by the San Francisco Giants a few days later. During his 25 outings with Triple-A Sacramento, Ingram recorded a 3.08 ERA.

Ingram decided to become a free agency after the 2024 season and has since joined the Braves. Ingram would ideally benefit from the Braves’ reputation for pitching development as he searches for another opportunity to play in the main leagues.

The Detroit Tigers selected Ingram in the 37th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft. He joined with the Angels organization before the 2021 season began after the Tigers cut him loose in July 2020. He was optioned to Triple-A prior to the 2023 season, which was his first time in Triple-A, when the Angels decided to raise him up to the 40-man roster in order to shield him from the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.

Former Angels Reliever Joins NL Contender

During the 2023 season, Ingram pitched in both Double-A and Triple-A. In 22 Triple-A outings, he was 2-3 with a 3.21 ERA and 39 strikeouts. In June 2023, Ingram also received his first major league promotion. He pitched 5.1 innings in five games for the Angels, recording an 8.44 ERA and seven strikeouts.
