Buffalo is set to see the return of one of its key defensive players to the 53-man roster during this week’s Sunday Night Football matchup.
NFL All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano, who was placed on injured reserve (IR), has been activated ahead of the Bills’ Week 13 game against the San Francisco 49ers. While Milano is back on the roster, he is still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.
In related moves, the Bills have downgraded defensive tackle DeWayne Carter (IR/wrist) to out and elevated tight end Zach Davidson and quarterback Mike White from the practice squad.
Milano hasn’t played since Week 5 of the 2023 season, having missed all 11 games of the 2024 season due to a biceps injury. His previous season ended prematurely after suffering a leg injury against the Jaguars in London.
During this summer’s training camp at St. John Fisher, Milano participated in workouts with the team as he recovered from offseason rehab. He appeared on track to play in Week 1 before sustaining the biceps injury on August 15, which ultimately led to his placement on IR on August 27.
The linebacker’s journey back to the field has been a challenging one, underscoring his importance to Buffalo’s defense.
“Dude, it’s nice to be out there with the boys. After practice on Wednesday, Milano declared, “I’ll be playing ball and competing again.”
This week, Milano has participated fully in practice, and his teammates are thrilled to have him back.
“We’re just really happy for him to be back out there, flying around and making plays,” said quarterback Josh Allen. “He’s faced a lot of challenges over the past year and a half, and I can tell you the guys are absolutely thrilled for him.”
Milano’s availability for Sunday’s game against the 49ers at 6:50 p.m. will be announced by the Bills.
