EAGAN, Minnesota — Bo Richter has been promoted to the Vikings’ active roster.

Richter, an undrafted rookie who joined Minnesota this spring, was elevated from the practice squad for game days in Weeks 3, 4, and 7. Per NFL rules, a player must be added to the 53-man roster to remain eligible for game-day action after three practice squad elevations.

So far, Richter has contributed 56 snaps on special teams and 13 snaps on defense, recording two tackles.

Vikings Sign Bo Richter to Active Roster from Practice Squad; Terminate Contract of Robert Tonyan

In May, Tonyan became a free agent and signed with the Vikings. The veteran tight end was re-signed to the team’s practice squad after being waived during the first roster cuts. During Weeks three and four, Tonyan was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. On October 3, he signed to the 53-man roster; on October 8, his contract was terminated; and the next day, he was signed to the practice squad again. On October 19, he re-signed to the active roster.

Tonyan has played 13 snaps on offense and 33 on special teams across four games this season.

After leaving the Giants for the Vikings, Tom Brady criticizes quarterback Daniel Jones.

After Daniel Jones was benched by the New York Giants a few weeks ago, Tom Brady criticized the quarterback for requesting his dismissal from the team.

Jones was targeted by Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion and current FOX Sports color analyst, as he called the Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day.

Tom Brady Calls Out Daniel Jones After Ditching Giants for Vikings

During the broadcast, Brady commented, as reported by Bleacher Report, “I’m not sure how the whole situation unfolded, but asking for a release from a team that invested heavily in you is perhaps not the approach I would have taken.” He added, “In any situation, I always prioritized earning the respect and trust of my teammates because I believed that giving my best effort for the team was what mattered most.”

In March 2023, Jones signed a four-year contract extension with New York at a total of $160 million. To put third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito on the bench ahead of last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team obviously intended to cut Jones in the offseason before permanently moving on.

Tom Brady likens his circumstances at Michigan to Daniel Jones’s with the Giants.

After Jones started 69 games for the Giants during his six-year tenure in New York, Brady continued by drawing comparisons between Jones’ circumstances with the team and some of his own collegiate experiences at the University of Michigan.

“I believe that we all encounter various obstacles at different stages of our careers. In college, I had to deal with them,” Brady added. “The guys in the locker room were the ones who mattered most to me, even though certain things didn’t go as planned. Every day I was there. I was going to do everything in my power to help the club win, regardless of whether they wanted me to be the scout team quarterback or safety.

After giving it to Jones, Giants owner John Mara stated that the quarterback’s departure from the team was the wisest course of action for both parties.

Days after being released from the Giants, Daniel Jones signed with the Vikings.

After a brief period of unemployment, Jones joined the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday as Sam Darnold’s backup.

Although it suggests that Darnold will likely leave in the offseason, Jones’ inclusion on the Minnesota roster does not guarantee that the state will be his permanent home.

In March, Darnold should be able to negotiate a large raise on a multiyear contract with a new team because his play with the Vikings this season has undoubtedly been the greatest of his professional career.

After missing the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury, rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy will return to full health for the next campaign. Jones might start as McCarthy’s backup in 2025 or challenge him for the starting position next summer.

If not, Jones might try his luck in the free agent market the following spring.
