Having served as North Carolina’s head coach from 1988 to 1997, Brown is currently on his second term. After that, he became one of the best coaches in Texas Longhorns history, leading the team to a 16-year record of 158-48.
Brown returned to manage the Tar Heels in 2019 after a brief break from head coaching from 2013 to 2018. He has been the head coach ever since. Many have questioned whether his coaching career may come to an end this season at the age of 73.
However, CBS Sports and 247 Sports reported on Wednesday that Brown has been informing people close to the team, such as staff, players, and recruits, that he intends to stay on as head coach of North Carolina after this season.
Considering the difficulties the Tar Heels have encountered this season, Mack Brown has performed admirably. They looked to Max Johnson after losing star quarterback Drake Maye to the NFL Draft the previous season; however, he tragically sustained a season-ending injury in Week 1.
But Johnson has said he intends to come back in 2025. Since he has been out, Mack Brown has been depending on Jacolby Criswell, who has shown himself to be a strong quarterback.
North Carolina is 6-4 overall and, with two games left, will be bowl eligible for the sixth consecutive season despite having a modest 3-3 ACC record.
