By letting No. 2 Gabe Davis go in free agency and cutting ties with star receiver Stefon Diggs, the Buffalo Bills reorganized their wide receiving corps in the offseason.
The question of what both could achieve without Josh Allen throwing to them has been conjectured, but it may now be mostly unanswered. Davis has joined Diggs on the sidelines, only weeks after the Houston Texans placed him on injured reserve due to a damaged ACL that ended his season.
On November 19, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that Davis had been placed on season-ending injured reserve by the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a personal knee injury.

Since joining the failing Jaguars, Davis’ output has decreased; he has caught 20 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. During his four seasons in Buffalo, he was one of the biggest performers despite his inconsistent play, hauling in 163 passes for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns.
When Davis reached free agency, the Bills decided not to re-sign him, instead concentrating on cost-saving by breaking ties with other senior players to free up salary space. In March, Davis agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jaguars.
The wide receiver had fought through numerous ailments this season, according to Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson, who announced that Davis would be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
“He will be out for the remainder of the season. According to USA Today’s Jags Wire, Pederson stated, “It is confirmed, this morning.” I’m really sorry for him. He has fought through a few ailments this season, but when I visited him today, he was cheerful. However, he will be absent for the rest of the year.
Diggs, Davis’s former teammate, suffered an ACL tear during a victory over the Indianapolis Colts, ending his season. With all of Diggs’ effort, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud expressed sympathy for him.
According to NFL.com, Stroud stated, “It’s awful.” “It’s not something I just have a lot of words for, and it’s not easy. … I simply feel sorry for him. He has put in a great deal of effort. According to what he has informed us, he was enjoying one of the best team experiences of his life. I’m praying for him because I feel bad for him. I hope he maintains his composure and knows he will recover even more powerfully.
Other former Bills veterans have struggled with other teams, notably cornerback Tre’Davious White who joined the Los Angeles Rams last summer but was moved to the Baltimore Ravens at the trade deadline.
Wide Receiving Corps Revamped by Bills
Allen has been able to more equally distribute the targets owing in part to a redesigned wide receiver corps, which has helped the Bills get off to their greatest start in almost 30 years. The team acquired Pro Bowler Amari Cooper at the trade deadline after using its top overall pick to acquire rookie Keon Coleman and veteran Curtis Samuel.
With five guys with at least 20 receptions and 11 different players with at least one receiving touchdown, the Bills’ attack is now more balanced thanks to the signings.
