Trevor Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury to his throwing arm, which has kept him out of action for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The management has already declared the starter out of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, despite giving him one additional week to recover.

Following Sunday’s game against the Lions, the Jaguars will get a week off. The team is shutting Lawrence down rather than perhaps running the danger of further injury. After telling reporters that he felt “beat up” after the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Lawrence sustained a shoulder injury in Week 9. The signal caller’s injury seemed to be more worse than first thought, thus “beat up” seemed like a vague term.

Curiously, the Jaguars have not yet placed Lawrence on injured reserve, preferring to wait and see if the rookie quarterback can recover. The game following the Lions will precede a bye week, which is wonderful news. It is anticipated that Lawrence will stay out this week and take a week off the next week so that he can play against the Houston Texans in Week 13. Reports, however, indicate that the quarterback’s injuries are much worse than anticipated.

Doug Pederson, the head coach of the Jaguars, was initially evasive regarding the damage Lawrence had incurred, which ultimately resulted in his shoulder injury. Additionally, it was reported that Lawrence would need surgery.

It looks like Lawrence might be getting fit enough to at least try to return to the field this season, even though these reports haven’t been verified yet. However, it is also possible that the team is waiting to see if Lawrence recovers sufficiently to avoid surgery.

The Jaguars are probably being cautious with Lawrence after giving him a huge five-year, $275 million deal extension prior to the start of the season, but there are probably a lot of factors to consider at this time. At $55 million a year, Lawrence was tied with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for the highest salary in the NFL.

This was prior to Dak Prescott of the Cowboys surpassing both of them with a $60 million yearly contract. In any case, Lawrence is compensated like the best quarterback, so there’s no need to rush him back to action if he gets hurt.

Given their current 2-8 record, the Jaguars essentially have no chance of qualifying for the postseason. Given how their season has been going, they could also be selected with the first overall choice in the 2025 NFL Draft. Just making sure Lawrence is secure during the upcoming season is preferable right now.

Za’Darius Smith will not play for the Detroit Lions against the Texans in Week 10 inactives.

Prior to their game against the Houston Texans in Week 10, the Detroit Lions have announced their inactives. The most significant move Detroit made this week was trading for edge rusher Za’Darius Smith, who will regrettably not participate in this game. We discussed all of Detroit’s other changes in our most recent Lions depth chart update.

Smith joined the team on Friday for his first session with the Lions after the organization decided to give him a few days off after acquiring him on Tuesday. Smith was ready to spend his bye week in Cleveland.

Smith was “not quite ready” to go this week, according to early Sunday morning rumors that have now been verified. Although he will miss this game, he will practice for a full week leading up to Week 11 and should be well-prepared for a home game against the Jaguars.

The Lions can increase their game-day roster from 47 to 48 players for this week’s game since eight of their offensive linemen are available for Sunday’s match. The Lions only need to declare seven players inactive for today’s game because there are 55 players on the game-day roster and 48 players who are eligible to participate.
