When the Buffalo Bills play the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, their defense will be severely injured.

Coach Sean McDermott has ruled out middle linebacker and team captain Terrel Bernard. In addition to personal concerns, Bernard missed practice this week because of ankle and pec issues, which is why he isn’t playing.

Due to a pectoral injury, Bernard has already missed two games, including Buffalo’s crushing 35-10 Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He has recorded 32 tackles (3 TFLs), a pass defense, and an interception so far this season. Without him, the Bills have a very thin linebacker corps, and it is anticipated that third-year man Baylon Spector would fill in for Bernard for the third time this season. A torn bicep sustained during training camp has already kept Matt Milano out for the most of the season, if not longer.

Along with pass rusher Von Miller, whose suspension expires this week, the Bills defense will also be without defensive lineman DeWayne Carter because of a wrist injury. Despite the injuries, Buffalo is still a difficult team to manage since they rank seventh in points allowed and ninth in DVOA (per FTN Fantasy). Along the defensive line, they will also have to contend with elite players like Greg Rousseau, Ed Oliver, and A.J. Epenesa, while nickel corner Taron Johnson is one of the finest in the league.

By early Friday afternoon, the Seahawks will make their final injury report public.

Buffalo Bills injury report update: Terrell Bernard, Curtis Samuel out

Three players were ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks by Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

Week 8 will see the absence of LB Terrel Bernard (ankle), DT DeWayne Carter (wrist), and WR Curtis Samuel (pectoral).

Additionally, McDermott informed reporters that Carter would require wrist surgery and be out of commission for several weeks. The rookie may be placed on injured reserve by the team.

All other players on the Bills’ injury report for this week, including DE Dawuane Smoot, TE Dawson Knox, CB Taron Johnson, TE Dalton Kincaid, and S Damar Hamlin, will practice on Friday.
