Before their matchup with Alabama, the Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart are attempting to flip an excellent wide receiver recruit. This summer, one of the nation’s most highly sought recruits shocked the college football media community by deciding to pledge to Florida State rather than Georgia or LSU. Many in the industry believed that Milton, Georgia-born CJ Wiley, a four-star wide receiver, would undoubtedly be attending the SEC prior to his declaration. Rather, he went with Mike Norvell and Florida State.

But since Wiley committed in June, Georgia and Kirby Smart haven’t lost trying on bringing him on board. And with Florida State’s severe early-season struggles, many have started to wonder if Wiley would reconsider. For several months now, Smart has shown no qualms about his unwavering interest in and pursuit of Wiley. Additionally, Smart is using the bye week before playing Alabama to focus on recruiting, as he made clear when speaking with the media this week.

This weekend, Rusty Mansell of On3 Sports was the first to disclose, but other sources also state that Smart will be paying CJ Wiley a visit in the hopes of moving him to Georgia.

Although Wiley has already made many more visits to Georgia during his recruitment process, he is still (for the time being) committed to Florida State. This simply widens the gap between the Bulldogs and the skilled wide receiver recruit in terms of touch points.

Wiley is extremely tall at 6’4″ and weighs close to 200 pounds. He is also very quick. In spite of his height, he has had sub-11-second 100-meter track times on several occasions and is among the most productive wide receivers in the country among all playmakers. He recorded almost 22 yards per reception in the previous season, and he’s already making an impact this year.

Although Wiley’s willingness to transfer to Georgia (or any other school) is unknown at this point, it’s probably only a matter of time if the Bulldogs keep winning, Smart keeps putting the relationship first, and Florida State keeps losing.

Tim Tebow Addresses Georgia Critics Following Tight Victory Against Kentucky

In Week 3, the Georgia Bulldogs were on the verge of being upset by the Kentucky Wildcats. But Georgia won 13–12 to escape Lexington. Georgia is now ranked second in the nation after their thrilling victory.

Many talked about Georgia’s appearance in relation to this season’s remaining games. Tim Tebow, though, had had enough of “SEC Nation.” Tebow maintained his confidence that Georgia, despite their road struggles against Kentucky, was still a championship-caliber team.

Tebow talked about how the USF game altered the discourse surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the fourth quarter, the score was tied until Alabama took control of the game and scored 21 straight points to win.

The former Florida Gators quarterback noted that most championship teams experience close losses or get upset on their way to winning national titles.

“Sometimes we get caught up in the moment and fail to see the bigger picture, but we need to,” Tebow said. “You could point out plenty of flaws in Alabama when they played USF two weeks ago. They played badly, and it was a one-score game. Then, a week later, everything changed dramatically because Kentucky played them closely. That’s just how it is in the SEC. Look at every championship team—either they had a close call or someone gave them a real scare.”

Georgia won the 2021 and 2022 national titles in back-to-back years. After falling to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, the Bulldogs were not eligible for the College Football Playoffs. Georgia’s next game is at home against Alabama in Athens. In the all-time series, the Crimson Tide is ahead 43-26-3. Since 2020, Alabama and Georgia have not played in the regular season until this meeting. The game will begin on September 28. ABC will air the kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET.
