With a roster move off the books, the New England Patriots went on the road.

The team added rookie defensive end Jamree Kromah off the Chicago Bears practice squad on the eve of their game against the New York Jets on Thursday night.

Veteran outside linebacker Oshane Ximines has been placed on injured reserve and will now miss at least four games as part of a matching 53-man roster adjustment.

In April, 24-year-old Kromah became an undrafted free agent and joined the NFL. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound former transfer from Rutgers to James Madison accomplished this after finishing as a redshirt senior with the Dukes with 60 tackles, 11 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. After the preseason concluded, he was able to pass waivers and signed on to Chicago’s practice squad when it was formed in August. The rookie had previously been chosen in the fifth round of the 2024 UFL draft by the San Antonio Brahmas.

After leaving what turned out to be an overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Ximines, 27, was listed as out of the game on the final injury report. The 6-foot-4, 254-pound Old Dominion player was sidelined for the entire week of walkthroughs due to a knee injury, and he was placed on injured reserve. After being selected by the New York Giants with pick number 95 overall in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Ximines has played in 50 games, amassed 72 tackles, and recorded 6.5 sacks. This September, the April newcomer in Foxborough played 29 special teams snaps and 14 defensive snaps.

For the AFC East opener, the Patriots also ruled out guard Sidy Sow, defensive captain Ja’Whaun Bentley, and offensive tackle Vederian Lowe. Four more players on the current roster are moving forward with question marks against them.

The game at MetLife Stadium will take off on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Patriots Cut First-Round Select Following Contentious Post; Could Sign With Chargers Or Chiefs

The New England Patriots’ Jalen Reagor era came to an abrupt end when the team benched him for a contentious Instagram story post. Reagor was infamously chosen with the first pick, one pick ahead of great wide receiver Justin Jefferson. He struggled with the Philadelphia Eagles and alternated between the New England Patriots and other teams in 2023. Reagor was a member of New England’s practice squad for the first two weeks of 2024, but it came to an abrupt end after an inappropriate social media post.

Reagor recently added the meme “Rich Car Bad House” to his narrative, which seemed to suggest that the New England Patriots were the house and he was the opulent car. It appears that this infuriated head coach Jerod Mayo, because Reagor promptly took down the post and was cut by the Patriots. Although the Jalen Reagor release “wasn’t the direct result of the social media post,” according to Doug Kyed of The Boston Herald, it’s reasonable to argue it had some influence. Reagor never provided an explanation for his first-round draft pick, but the TCU product might be able to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs.

Chiefs and Chargers Might Go After Jalen Ramsey Following an ignominious cut

There was an obvious need at wide receiver, but the Kansas City Chiefs prevailed in the Super Bowl. By choosing Xavier Worthy and acquiring Marquise Brown, the team appeared to have handled this problem, but injuries soon reared their ugly heads. Brown will probably be out for the whole regular season due to a collarbone injury he sustained during the preseason. Kansas City’s passing game is centered on Worthy and second-year wideout Rashee Rice, as Travis Kelce slows down as well. With this kind of talent, Patrick Mahomes can get by, but it wouldn’t hurt to try the recently cut Jalen Reagor

Although Jalen Reagor is still developing physically, he has the potential to be a useful gadget player at wide receiver. As a returner, he poses a real threat because of his quickness, which allows him to challenge defenses vertically. Reagor can’t quite match Marquise Brown’s speed, but he still has a chance to move up the roster in this unimpressive depth chart. Reagor should find some use in this offense thanks to Andy Reid, who is arguably the most talented offensive strategist in the game. He can’t be worse than Kadarius Toney was the previous year, at the very least.

Additional Assistance for Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers have a 2-0 record going into Week 3, largely because to their dependable running game and solid defense. But eventually, they’ll have to throw the ball if they want to compete with the best teams in the AFC. Despite being one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, Justin Herbert’s subpar supporting cast has caused him to rank 21st in EPA/play. During the first two weeks of the season, Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston showed their strengths, but it wouldn’t hurt to have another trustworthy receiver in the mix. Los Angeles would be a good fit for the recently cut wideout Jalen Reagor, even though he’s not the most inspiring option.

DJ Chark is the vertical threat in this scheme, which is why the Chargers signed him. Regretfully, the wide receiver will be sidelined for the next two weeks at minimum due to a hip injury that forced him on the injured reserve prior to Week 1. Los Angeles could utilize Reagor’s vertical skills to give their passing assault some life, but they made it thus far without him.
