After opening the 2024 season with a 0–2 record, it seemed only a matter of time, but FSU has lost its second pledge in as many days. Javion Hilson, a four-star defensive end, announced on his X social media account that he has withdrawn his commitment from FSU.
After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment. I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support.

Myron Charles, a four-star defensive tackle, switched his commitment to the Texas Longhorns and left FSU on Saturday afternoon. At critical positions of need, these two defensive commits from FSU are ranked highest. Despite developing two players into NFL First Round Draft selections in the last few years, FSU has had trouble finding elite athletes out of high school at the defensive end position. Kevin Wynn, a four-star defensive tackle, is the lone defensive lineman pledge still available to FSU. Only around three months remain until the Early Signing Period begins, and they have committed no defensive ends.
With the two de-pledges, FSU now has 11 commitments and is ranked No. 34 nationwide overall. Next week’s game against the Memphis Tigers will be interesting to watch to see how this team is assembled. More class decommitments are likely if conditions don’t improve on the field. Given that he stated his final decision will be made in December, it’s reasonable to assume he’s not totally ruling out FSU, but I don’t believe it’s likely.
Before Nick Saban retired, Hilson had a commitment to Alabama, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up committing to some SEC team. It’s bad news for FSU, but if they can’t win games and maintain this class together, perhaps a complete rebuild centered on Mike Norvell is required.
This weekend saw the withdrawal of two of the most highly-regarded promises in #Tribe25, which dealt a serious blow to Florida State’s recruiting class.
Four-star defensive end Javion Hilson revealed on Sunday night that he was leaving the Seminoles after the team’s 0-2 start. Hilson switched from Alabama to FSU back in January, but he has since been forced to reconsider his choice due to the circumstances in Tallahassee.
Hilson posted on social media, saying, “After serious thought, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment.” “In December, I’ll make my ultimate choice. I appreciate the support that everyone at FSU has given me.

Hilson, one of the best pass-rushers in the 2025 class, was the only defensive end to commit to the Seminoles, thus this is a huge loss for Florida State. The program just has one defensive line commitment in the 2025 class, four-star Kevin Wynn, after Hilson and four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles left. Given how the unit has performed through two games, this won’t be good enough.
Hilson has racked up 24 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one blocked and goal through the first three games of his senior season. He has won state titles for Cocoa High School in a row.
With Hilson’s withdrawal, there are now just 11 verbal commitments left in Florida State’s 2025 class. The haul falls from 22nd to 34th place nationally.
In the 2025 class, 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-3.5, 235-pound defensive tackle as the No. 34 overall prospect, the No. 2 EDGE, and the No. 6 recruit in Florida.
