NFL source Jordan Schultz reports that rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze of the Chicago Bears is said to have suffered a Grade 1 knee sprain. The former standout for Washington was hurt during the Bears’ Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans, 24-17.
“Odunze will seek a second opinion, but this is best case scenario for the talented rookie receiver,” Shultz remarked on X.
Following Sunday’s victory, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus voiced concern on Odunze’s injuries.
Rome’s knee is the source of concern. He’s having an MRI today, so we’ll have to see where it is and see where it goes from there. He should be OK, Eberflus stated, according to NBC Sports.
Rome Odunze’s one reception ended in a fumble despite his leaping attempt to catch a tipped pass. It was a crazy day, but that was typical of Chicago. For example, even though Caleb Williams finished with fewer than 100 passing yards, the Bears managed to rally to defeat Tennessee.
D’Andre Swift, the leading rusher, only gained 30 yards on 10 carries. Nevertheless, Chicago delivered when it mattered most and managed to open the season with a 1-0 lead.
Although Odunze’s injury is a setback, he will overcome it. After two years of domination, the promising receiver at Washington became a program legend. During the previous season, he caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns. The year before, he had seven touchdowns and 1,145 yards from 75 receptions.
NFL Injury Watch: Rome Odunze, Jake Ferguson, and Puka Nacua.
The day following the first NFL Sunday is always met with overreactions, with the exception of the overpaid and underproductive Deshaun Watson and Daniel Jones. Unfortunately, opening-day injuries also bring with them a great deal of fear.
Three players in particular caused fans and fantasy football managers concern: Rome Odunze, a rookie wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, Jake Ferguson, a tight end for the Dallas Cowboys, and Puka Nacua of the Los Angeles Rams.
On Sunday, all three of them sustained knee injuries. On Monday, all three were popular on Google.
First, the positive update.
In Dallas’ 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns, Ferguson was hurt after he leaped to avoid a tackle and landed awkwardly. Contrary to expectations, the MRI results showed an MCL sprain rather than a season-ending injury. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he is listed as week to week.
Ferguson tweeted, “God is good!” in celebration of the lucky outcome.
God is good!🙏🏽

Nacua injured his right knee bursa sac, which caused him to lose time throughout training camp and the preseason. The second-year wide receiver was taken off the field in the second quarter after reinjuring his knee, but he was back in time for the Detroit Lions’ 26–20 loss on Sunday night.
Nacua is expected to be evaluated further, but for the time being, he is expected to be out week to week, according to ESPN’s Schefter on Monday.

Odunze is still waiting for his MRI’s results from Monday.
While blocking downfield in Chicago’s 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans, Odunze sustained an injury. Odunze’s legs seemed to be injured in a collision between a Titans player and Bears running back Velus Jones Jr.

Watching his Right knee here as he gets rolled up.
Primary concern: MCL sprain
Secondary concern: meniscus due to the compression/shearWould explain latent swelling and getting the MRI today versus yesterday. He probably came in painful/stiff.

Odunze, the ninth overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, has health concerns, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. Odunze stood to gain from the presence of veteran receivers D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen, even though Chicago still has them following their chemistry with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams throughout the preseason.
