Since joining the Detroit Tigers’ Single-A affiliate in West Michigan as part of the transaction that sent starting pitcher Jack Flaherty to Los Angeles, Thayron Liranzo has been outstanding.
After the deal, the former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect has played in 26 games with an OPS of 1.031.

The 21-year-old was taken aback to learn, upon answering a phone call, that he and Triple-A shortstop Trey Sweeney had been acquired by the Detroit Tigers in a thrilling trade with the Dodgers for Flaherty. He had not anticipated being traded before the deadline.

According to Whitecaps hitting coach Francisco Contreras, Liranzo told the Detroit Free Press, “I was a little surprised.” “At first, it was a little shocking, but my perspective soon changed. I entered the house and announced, “I’ve been traded to the Tigers.” My mindset hasn’t changed since I came here since I have the same objective in mind.
Liranzo is a first baseman and switch-hitter in the field. The Tigers are just concerned about his hitting ability.

“As the kids say, he nukes balls,” stated Scott Harris, head of baseball operations for the Tigers, about the switch-hitting catcher. He can drive the ball from both sides of the plate and makes a ton of excellent contact. He also approaches the plate with maturity. I think our fans will notice that he is extremely methodical at the plate, but he really lets loose with his A-swing and rakes balls when he gets a pitch he thinks he can do damage on.

Liranzo played third base as a child. Fernando Tatis Sr. came up with the notion to switch to catcher. He didn’t want to make the adjustment at first, but now he can see why it was the right one for him. He signed with the Dodgers during the international signing period one year after attending Tatis’ academy. At the time, he was only sixteen.

Liranzo, who hasn’t played first base since entering the Tigers organization, stated, “They were looking at players to bring into their academy,” as reported by the Free Press. “They brought me to Fernando Tatis’ academy after they saw me and liked me, and that’s when they converted me to catcher.”

Prospect Dodgers Surrendered in Jack Flaherty Trade Looks Like the Real Deal

Since the Dodgers and Tigers’ High-A teams are only 105 miles apart, Liranzo’s transition from the trade to the big leagues was seamless off the field. He drove across Michigan, packed in Midland, and unloaded in Comstock Park.

As to MLB Pipeline, he became Detroit’s sixth-ranked prospect right away.

“He still has a lot of growth and development to go, but he has all the makings of a frontline catcher for us. It’s an area where we felt we needed to add more talent, so we’re excited to do it with a guy who can help us on both sides of the ball,” Harris said.

The Detroit Tigers’ Ace is a nominee for Major League Baseball’s Most Valuable Player award.

Tarik Skubal, the starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, is obviously having a great season.

Cy Young is a big fan of his. He may win the triple crown in pitching. Detroit is beginning to surround him with some really talented young people.

He is currently a contender for the honor that Major League Baseball views as the highest honor.

Skubal was the Tigers’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, MLB announced on Monday.

Every year, a Major League player who best exemplifies baseball through exceptional character, community service, philanthropy, and constructive contributions on and off the field is given the Roberto Clemente Award.

Skubal would just be the second Detroit player to win the award if he does; the other was Hall of Famer and Tigers legend Al Kaline in 1973.

In order to help Alternatives for Girls, an organization committed to empowering homeless and at-risk young women by providing crucial interventions and support, Skubal and his wife, Jessica, donate to the Detroit Tigers Foundation.

This includes helping victims of domestic abuse start over in Alternatives for Girls’ new Dr. Maya Angelou Village housing unit.

The Village is an initiative to build entirely affordable housing for single people and families. Along with case management offices and indoor and outdoor community amenity spaces, it will offer residents the resources they require to attain the best possible health results.

The cost of completely prepared “welcome home baskets,” which include necessary household items (pots, pans, bedding, cleaning supplies, etc.) for single people and families moving in, is covered by donations from the Skubal.

Additionally, he is in favor of the Tigers Autograph for a Cause initiative, which benefits the Little League program in Kingman, Arizona, as well as the Detroit Tigers Foundation.

Aaron Judge, an outfielder, won last year. Every October, during the World Series, the winner is typically declared.

Yadier Molina (2018), Adam Wainwright (2020), Carlos Carrasco (2019), Justin Turner (2022), and Nelson Cruz (2021) are among the other recent recipients of the honor.

Roberto Clemente Day is observed on Sunday in order to formally recognize each club’s candidates and to honor Clemente’s humanitarian legacy. A personalized tribute film to Clemente and the 30 Roberto Clemente Award nominees will be screened in all MLB ballparks as part of the league-wide event, which will also feature the Roberto Clemente Day emblem on the bases and official dugout lineup cards.

On December 31, 1972, Clemente, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, passed away while transporting supplies to victims of the Nicaraguan earthquake. The Puerto Rican native was the 1966 National League MVP, a four-time National League batting champion, a 12-time Gold Glove winner, a 15-time All-Star, and a two-time World Series victor.
