Everyone who was hoping for a Rams victory—well, everyone but the Rams—let out a collective sigh of relief.

The Rams’ opening drive was highlighted by Tory Horton, who ran a 78-yard punt return touchdown to set the tone. The third quarter ended with Horton leaving for the medical tent; as a result, CSU (1-1) defeated the Bears (0-2), 38-17. Horton was observed on the sidelines, holding onto his hamstring.

The Rams’ first victory of the 2024 campaign will mean very little to them. For the upcoming week, the Rams are focused on more important matters. Strengthening the offensive line, which enabled CSU to rush for 246 yards—certainly more than in previous games—is one aspect of it.

Although we’re pleased, we’re not quite content. We could play much better, and we realize we have a big game coming up,” Saveyon Henderson remarked.

During the game, several Rams ran for yards. Keegan Holles, a redshirt sophomore, led for 89 yards and a touchdown. Justin Marshall scored 67 yards in the end. Avery Morrow grabbed a touchdown. On play-action, Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi even rushed a touchdown.

On Saturday, the Rams ran for 180 yards more than they were given. Should Horton fail to return for Boulder on September 14, the victory could be secured by the run game. If the run game falters and Horton is a no-show, the other wide receivers will have to step up.

The younger receivers were compelled to do that in Horton’s departure due to the Bears mismatch. Caleb Goodie, a sophomore, led the team in receiving with three and 52 yards.

“I think it’s good that other people have to step up,” Goodie remarked.

“All I have to do is be prepared for my moment.”

The Rams’ defense limited the Bears’ total offense to 298 yards. Just 107 yards were gained by rushing. CSU is still not happy with how the defense is playing. There are still things to work on, with Boulder just around the corner.

Going into week three, Boum Jock stated, “I really feel like we showed a lot of good things out there, but obviously there are some things we need to improve.”

A historic celebration over the weekend was the driving force behind the win.

Ag Day’s “Orange-Out” attracted 36,573 spectators who stayed for the majority of the game. Lt Col. John Mosley’s number was retired and displayed in the stadium before to kickoff. Lt. Col. Mosley was the first African American to play football at CSU since 1906, the second in school and state history to be an African American wrestler, a three-time letterman, and the first to receive a football letter.

As one of the first African American bomber pilots in American history, Lt. Col. Mosley enlisted with the Tuskegee Airmen and flew in the Korean, Vietnam, and World Wars.

CSU plays Boulder (1-1) at 5:30 p.m. on September 14 to wrap off their three-game homestand.

Floor general with three stars Colorado State is chosen by JoJo McIver.

Top20 recruit Trey McKenney nearing a list-cut; scheduling visits

Pledger Niko Medved of the Class of 2025 has secured his first commitment. JoJo McIver, a three-star point guard, declared his commitment to Colorado State this evening.

Regarding his dedication, McIver stated, “It was a sense of trust.” “For the past year or two, Ali Farokhmanesh has been recruiting me and telling me about their vision for me.” They fulfill every requirement I have for moving on to the next level, therefore I balanced the benefits and disadvantages.”

McIver, a 6-foot-2 floor general from Ellison High in Killeen, Texas, decided on the Rams following his official trips to Oklahoma State, Fort Collins, and Oral Roberts. He claims that upon his official visit to Colorado State, he felt a distinct vibe from the other universities that were interested in him.

“When I was on my visit, I could feel that everything was genuine,” McIver remarked. “They had a need for me rather than a want.”

Now that McIver is on board, Medved and his staff’s focus will be on adding Ian Inman or Keaton Wagler to their 2025 recruiting class at the wing position.

McIver, a proven lead guard with exceptional speed and defensive prowess, is ranked No. 31 in the 247Sports Positional Rankings for point guards.
