With the announcement of quarterback Dak Prescott’s historic four-year, $240 million agreement, the Dallas Cowboys have made headlines once more. The news validates what fans of the Washington Commanders suspected: there will be more confrontations with Prescott leading their NFC East opponent.

Famous Commanders fan Kevin Durant recently stoked controversy by declaring that the Cowboys are the one NFL team he would cut if given the opportunity. Like Durant, a lot of Commanders supporters saw Dallas as their main opponent. Prescott’s continual presence simply serves to reinforce how fiercely this rivalry is fought.

Throughout his career, Prescott has amassed 3,145 passing yards and 27 touchdowns versus the Commanders, good for an 11-2 record against the team. He’ll have additional chances to improve those stats and preserve the Cowboys’ advantage in the all-time series—which is now 78-48-2 in Dallas’ favor—with this new agreement.

As Prescott gets ready to take on the formidable defense of the Cleveland Browns, spearheaded by Myles Garrett, in Week 1, the Commanders have their own matchup to look forward to: a matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Washington hopes to get past its recent past and start the season strong under new head coach Dan Quinn.

Quinn, a former defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, is aware of the importance of this game. His experience with Dallas may come in handy as the Commanders try to turn the tide in the NFC East rivalry and gain momentum in their season opener.

Fans of the Commanders are left to wonder how Prescott’s contract will affect their team’s chances of winning the division when the season gets underway. However, for the time being, the priority is still on overcoming the current obstacle, which is beating Tampa Bay and establishing the tone for a competitive season.

Marcus Mariota, the quarterback for the Washington Commanders, is now on injured reserve.

Marcus Mariota was placed on injured reserve by the Washington Commanders on Saturday, which means he will miss at least the first four games of the season.

Mariota has an injured pectoral muscle, according to coach Dan Quinn. This week, the 30-year-old quarterback was absent from practice and reported with a chest ailment.

Journeyman Jeff Driskel is anticipated to start in Sunday’s season opener against Tampa Bay as Jayden Daniels’ backup.

In addition, defensive tackle Sheldon Day and linebacker Nick Bellore were added to the active roster for the Commanders’ game against the Buccaneers, and former Wake Forest and Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman was acquired from their practice squad.

Johnny Newton, a rookie defensive tackle, is questionable as he heals from offseason foot surgery.

Mariota was signed by Washington to a $6 million one-year contract before Daniels was selected with the second pick. The No. 2 pick from 2015 declared at the time that he was prepared to start or serve as a mentor as required.
