At last, Stefon Diggs discussed his release from the Buffalo Bills in an interview with GQ. There has been much conjecture about the supposedly year-long problem that ended with his trade to the Houston Texans, but new details have recently surfaced. Diggs is not the only celebrity to discuss his departure; earlier this summer, Josh Allen talked with Chris Long on the Green Light Podcast.

“”That person was very nice for us here, and I still adore him like a brother.” We also had a great time. Whatever people choose to say about us, on and off the field, we had a great deal of success and joy while doing it. We were quite close.

Stefon Diggs As He Left

Diggs was more forthcoming in this interview than we’ve seen from him in the past, despite his long-standing policy of becoming elusive with the media, which has occasionally gone from charming to annoying. Maybe he felt more at ease talking to a staff reporter at a fashion magazine than the usual sports reporters, since now we have some of the missing context.

About being traded from Buffalo to Minnesota and back:

“I kind of wanted things to shake, so things had to shake because none of those teams wanted to get rid of me.”

Diggs suggests that he was transferred voluntarily, which would be consistent with Minnesota’s findings from 2020. Since 2017, the Buffalo Bills have been very silent about everything, thus no reports have been verified; nonetheless, this interview gives that explanation.

He seems to be implying that he had known for a while that he will be traded this season:

“”We had a few conversations with Buffalo. I understood where things were headed, anyway. There was so much curiosity in the outer world. From the start of the season until its conclusion and throughout the off-season, I was fully aware of everything that was happening. Not too much uncertainty on my part.””

On His Season in 2023, Diggs

In 2023, Stefon Diggs had a strong half-season with Buffalo before disappearing from the picture as the offense managed to win without him. As soon as Diggs released the ball, everything changed. It appears that his trading was sparked by his mental state:

“I was in the worst mental state I’ve been in since joining the league last year,” Diggs claims. It’s obviously not the best for me if I’m not in a good place. Thus, things had to start to stabilize at that point.”

He was questioned by his interviewer about how outspoken he is about wanting the ball.

Stefon Diggs feisty over Bills exit: 'Pay attention'

“Every professional athlete I know wants the ball. If you’re not getting it and it’s not a problem, you’re not a competitor.”

Diggs on his desire for the ball
According to Clay Skipper, the interviewer, Diggs emphasized in the following comment that his decline in statistics aligned with the Bills’ choice to replace their offensive coordinator:

“”Keep an eye on the match. Of course, I wish I could have all the plays back. However, a lot of the plays didn’t work out for me. To catch the ball, a lot of things have to go my way. It is impossible to get 800 yards in the first eight games after getting out of bed. That’s what your top receiver is doing. You describe the previous ten to me. What altered? Were there any ongoing changes? I simply focus on what actually occurred rather than what others would have you believe occurred. Like, I haven’t known how to fucking play football for the last ten games?”

Diggs’ relationship with the Buffalo Bills, at least from Stefon’s perspective, appears to have deteriorated as a result of attention being diverted from him as the team’s top threat. He believes he would have kept getting well if they had kept feeding him. However, there were “plenty of plays I want back” when given the chance later in the season and in the postseason. It remains to be seen how it would have transpired, but the former Bills wide receiver is upset about it.

He responded as follows when questioned about playing with C.J. Stroud this season as opposed to Josh Allen:

He’s one of those youngsters that, in my opinion, has the potential to be the MVP. I don’t use gas.

Overall, many people will have their eyes opened by the interview. Diggs’ thoughts on the game of football and his reasons for leaving are evident. He was not happy with the ball being taken away from him as the 2023 seasons went on, and he was prepared to move on and try somewhere else. He was also willing to see if he could succeed somewhere else. In a receiver room full of talent in Houston, it remains to be seen if he can be the center of attention.
