The Seminoles’ journey to exact revenge for being left out of the 2023 College Football Playoffs began with the 24-21 loss.
With a one percent chance to run the table, Boston College, who won just three ACC games the previous season, all but destroyed Florida State’s chances of qualifying for the enlarged playoffs in 2024 on Monday night.

Furthermore, it wasn’t that near. Boston College won 28–13 in Tallahassee, controlling the game for the majority of the evening by multiple scores.
Florida State became the fourth preseason top-10 team to start 0-2 in the previous ten years, according to ESPN.
And it’s the third time ever that a team with a 0-2 record has held a top-10 ranking (1967 Texas and 2022 Notre Dame).
And it looks like the Seminoles are headed toward completing yet another unwelcome pattern in college football.
With teams like Clemson, Miami, and Notre Dame yet to come, it’s likely that they will falter somewhere else in their remaining schedule. If this happens, it will be the 19th time in the previous 21 seasons that a team placed in the preseason top-10 finishes outside of the top-25.
By Tuesday, Florida State might even be completely left out of the Associated Press’s inaugural in-season poll.
After their early bye week, the Seminoles will play Memphis on September 14 for their next chance to win.

In less than two weeks of the NCAA football season, Mike Norvell, the head coach of Florida State, is already facing pressure to alter his offense significantly.
In the Seminoles’ season-opening loss in Dublin, Georgia Tech pulled off a stunning 24-21 shock thanks to a field goal with seconds remaining. Taking responsibility for the defeat, Norvell claimed he hadn’t done enough to get the team ready.
“It’s sickening that we came up short and I take total responsibility and ownership for that,” Norvell added. “It is my responsibility to ensure that the team is ready to play to the best of our abilities. That wasn’t, in my opinion, our best.
However, the team’s difficulties persisted into the second game, as they trailed unranked Boston College 14-6 at the half on Monday. DJ Uiagalelei, Florida State’s quarterback, had a difficult first half, completing just 10 of 25 passes for 124 yards and one interception.
By halftime, former NFL quarterback and pundit Dan Orlovsky had had enough and urged Norvell to bench Uiagalelei.
“A QB change is necessary at FSU,” Orlovsky stated in a post on X.
