The Buffalo Bills made a number of roster changes on Tuesday, one day ahead of the NFL’s deadline for clubs to reduce their active rosters to 53 players. Fans were perplexed by numerous unexpected trades, even though many roster cutbacks were anticipated. Not only did the Bills cut promising rookie running back Frank Gore Jr., but they also parted ways with three experienced players who could have been key contributors in 2024.
Buffalo dismissed defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, safety Kareem Jackson, and offensive tackle La’El Collins on Tuesday. Each of the three had a chance to help the Bills win their sixth consecutive AFC East championship when they reported to training camp this season.
Buffalo Bills Discharge Three Veterans
The seasoned group of defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, offensive tackle La’El Collins, and safety Kareem Jackson were among the Buffalo Bills’ unexpected roster cuts on Tuesday. NFL insider Jeremy Fowler claims that:
#Bills granting security Kareem Jackson, an insider said. The 15-year veteran, who has played for Denver for the most of the previous five years, joined Buffalo in July.
Jackson played for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans for 15 years before signing with the Bills this summer. Jackson recorded a career-high 94 tackles in 2022, marking a career year. Throughout his NFL career, he has started 193 games. La’El Collins, an offensive lineman and former standout player for the LSU Tigers in college, joined the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 2015. Throughout his career, he has started 86 out of 89 games, and he went into this preseason vying for a backup position on the offensive line.
Kingsley Jonathan, a defensive end, also left Buffalo. In 14 games with the Bills between 2022 and 2023, the former undrafted free agent had five tackles, one TFL, and two quarterback hurries. Although he did not make the opening-day active roster, Jonathan went into the offseason with the intention of competing for a rotational defensive end place behind teammates pass rushers Von Miller, A.J. Epenesa, and Greg Rousseau. Now that they’re on a practice squad, Jonathan, Jackson, and Collins will try to make another active roster. Following Tuesday’s cuts, Buffalo Bills supporters took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the team’s contentious choice to part with three potentially important players for the 2024 squad.
