The Raptors announced (via Twitter) that they have signed guard Jared Rhoden, a free agent.
According to a source, it’s an Exhibit 10 deal, which implies Rhoden will be invited to camp without any guarantee of a two-way contract or a roster position for Blake Murphy of Sportsnet (Twitter link). If he is waived and stays with Toronto’s G League affiliate for at least 60 days, he can earn a bonus of up to $77.5K.
Rhoden, 24, appeared in 31 games over the course of the previous two years while playing for the Pistons on a two-way deal. He shot 50% from the field and 38.7% from three-point range in 17 games last season, averaging 4.9 points and 1.9 rebounds.
After going undrafted in 2022, Rhoden, a former standout at Seton Hall, inked a contract with the Trail Blazers. Before the season began, he was waived, claimed by the Hawks, and then waived the next day.
Murphy notes that Toronto has now added all 21 players to its training camp (Twitter link). Fourteen players have guaranteed contracts, Bruno Fernando has a non-guaranteed agreement, three players are two-way players, and three have contracts with Exhibit 10. Quincy Guerrier is one such player; the Raptors have not acknowledged the reports of his Exhibit 10 contract. Murphy points out that the team has plenty of space to make roster changes during the season below the tax line.
Changes to the Front Office Announced by Motor City Cruise Changes to the Front Office Announced by Motor City Cruise.
Max Unger has been named the new general manager of The Motor City Cruise, which was revealed today along with modifications to the front office. In a similar development, Ben Carloni, who served as general manager of the Cruise from 2022 to 2024, has moved to the Detroit Pistons as director of basketball administration, where he will oversee basketball operations.
With the Cruise, Unger is about to begin his second season. Working closely with Carloni, he was the team’s assistant general manager throughout the previous campaign. Last season, Unger assisted in arranging a deal with the Osceola Magic that sent former Michigan point guard Zavier Simpson to the Cruise. Then, Simpson set franchise records for Cruise in terms of overall points scored (938) and assists (388) in a single season.
With five NBA call-ups during the 2023–24 season—including Simpson, Tosan Evbuomwan, Stanley Umude, and Buddy Boeheim—the Cruise tied the league record.
In a news release announcing his promotion, Unger stated, “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to build on the success of the Motor City Cruise and lead our players, coaches, and staff members with the same values and principles established by Trajan Langdon and his team this offseason.” “We’re excited for the upcoming G League season and to help the Detroit Pistons with our players’ development and growth.”
Last season, Unger had a significant role in the recruitment of Nathan Knight and Jayce Johnson to the Cruise roster. Knight and Johnson were essential members of head coach Jamelle McMillan’s rotation. Sam Peek and Devon Higgs, who participated with the Pistons Summer League squad in July, were also recruited with Unger’s assistance.
Unger, 31, started his NBA front office career in 2019–21 as a quality assurance assistant for basketball operations with the San Antonio Spurs. After that, he worked as a college scouting coordinator for the Pistons before being elevated to assistant general manager for the Cruise during the previous season.
From now on, he will oversee the Cruise’s roster, handling the erratic nature of the G League roster due to injuries, player signing deals abroad, and NBA call-ups. Currently leading the Cruise roster are Daniss Jenkins and Evbuomwan, both of whom have two-way contracts with the Pistons.

Next month, the Cruise will have local player trials, which have previously produced Peek and Malique Jacobs, two G League players. As the Cruise assemble their team for the 2024–25 campaign, Unger will have a lot of decisions to make, including the G League Draft on October 26.
