According to reports, a former guard for the Indiana Pacers will play hoops abroad. 28-year-old Edmond Sumner has inked a contract with the Sichuan Blue Whales of China, four years after playing his last game for the organization. This information was provided by BeoBasket’s Misko Raznatovic.
From 2023 to 2024, Sumner was a member of the Lithuanian Basketball League’s Łalgiris Kaunas. He averaged 6.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 23 games. Sumner will be on the team with former Pacers teammate Kyle O’Quinn as well as former NBA big man Greg Monroe.

Prior to playing abroad, Edmond Sumner was a reliable player for the Pacers.
Sumner spent 2018–2021 as a player for the Pacers. He played in just 55 games across the course of three seasons to begin his career with the team. He averaged 4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over that period. Nonetheless, the 2020–21 campaign saw an expanded role for the native of Michigan.
Sumner played in 53 games for the Pacers in 2020–21, which turned out to be his last season with the organization. Throughout the season, he shot 39.8% from outside the arc and 52.5% from the floor to average 7.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. In addition, Sumner made 24 starts for the team, which is by far the most of any guard in Pacers history.
Sumner scored twenty-two points against the Detroit Pistons and twenty-one points against the Orlando Magic on back-to-back nights.
Sumner sustained an Achilles injury prior to the 2021–2022 season, which prevented him from playing the whole year. The Pacers transferred him to the Brooklyn Nets in September 2021 in exchange for Juan Pablo Vaulet.
Sumner played 53 games with the Nets during his 2022–2023 season. But that offseason, the team waived him. Later, Sumner signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets, but before he could play for them, the franchise waived him.
This may be the final official indicator that Edmond Sumner will play in the NBA.
After making a recent move that would keep him abroad for the foreseeable future, Sumner has been out of the league for more than a year. The former Xavier player’s interest in playing in the NBA again is unknown. Either way, it appears that this is no longer a possibility. For the time being, however.
Complete NBA 2K25 Indiana Pacers ratings
The highly anticipated video game series, NBA 2K25, will soon be released in a few weeks, and fans can’t wait to see where their favorite players stand in the game.
On a scale of 0-100, 2K assigns player ratings; it is noteworthy that no player has ever obtained a rating lower than 40. This is to gauge the company’s perception of the athlete vis-à-vis the other players in the NBA. It is always entertaining for fans to see their favorite player earn a high rating and the recognition they believe they are due, even if ratings in NBA 2K games are meaningless in the big picture.
Reviewing the ratings that the Indiana Pacers players have received ahead of the game’s September 6 release is a smart idea. Remember that ratings are updated all year round. There’s a fair probability that by the end of the following season, the rating of anyone you feel is either too high or too low will have been adjusted.

Notable modifications from NBA 2K24
All of the Pacers’ players from the previous season were rated either higher or stayed at the same level. Tyrese Haliburton, who finished the game with a base 91 overall rating, finally broke the 90 mark following his All-NBA season. Furthermore, Andrew Nembhard obtained the largest overall upgrade—going from a 76 to an 81—after his second NBA season.
Conversely, James Wiseman, whom the team acquired last offseason, is the only player whose rating is worse than it was the previous season. Following his final campaign with the Detroit Pistons, the former No. 2 overall pick saw his overall ranking drop from 78 to 77, a fall of one point.
With a 3PT rating of 85, Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith are tied for the Pacers’ highest rating. Furthermore, Obi Toppin leads the squad in Dunk rating (90), followed closely by Jarace Walker (87).
