Four players, including standout playmaker Cody Walker, have received an official injury update from the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Walker, who left the field in the closing moments of the game against the Wests Tigers last Saturday night, will miss this week’s practices because of concussion procedures, requiring him to sit out an 11-day period.
Halfback Dean Hawkins will return to first grade in his absence as he attempts to secure a spot on the team’s roster for the upcoming campaign, although he has also been linked to a possible move to the Parramatta Eels.
Tyrone Munro, a winger, Michael Chee-Kam, and Dion Teaupa, a five-eighth, have also been listed as injured by the club.
Teaupa (AC joint) is starting to increase his contact work at training, despite his good recovery from injury, and he should be ready for selection in the next two weeks.
Chee-Kam (calf strain) is also anticipated to resume playing before the season ends, provided he meets his recovery goals.
Munro (collarbone) had a successful injury comeback last Saturday, scoring two tries in the NSW Cup against the Western Suburbs Magpies, even though the other two won’t be available this weekend.

Rabbitohs sign two players to 2026 Top 30 contracts.
Two new players have been confirmed by the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the upcoming season. These players will advance to the club’s Top 30 roster in 2026.
The Rabbitohs have announced that Gerome Burns and Max McCarthy have inked two-year contracts with the team. Initially, they will be placed on a development contract, and in the second season, they will be included to the Top 30 roster.
Gerome Burns, a mature recruit, will join the team after playing in the Queensland Cup for the past six years with the Norths Devils, Souths Logan Magpies, and Ipswich Jets—the teams he is now employed with.
Despite not having played in the NRL yet, with multiple honors in his career to date, he is the ideal backup playmaker for Cody Walker and Lewis Dodd.
The U18 and U20 QLD Maroons teams, the Mal Meninga Cup Player of the Year titles in 2015 and 2016, and the current lead in voting for the QLD Cup’s Petero Civoniceva Medal are just a few of the accolades that come with these titles.
He also participated in one preseason game with The Dolphins at the start of this season, and he also spent time with the Brisbane Broncos in 2020.
Rabbitohs Head of Football Mark Ellison released a statement saying, “We’re very excited to be bringing these three players to our Club in 2025 as we believe they all have what it takes to play in the NRL.”
“Gerome is prepared to advance to the higher levels of the sport. He is an accomplished player at the second-tier level of the game.
He was given the chance to participate in the NRL pre-season challenge with the Dolphins earlier this year, and we have been impressed with both his character and his ability as a player.
Max McCarthy will arrive from the Cronulla Sharks pathways system and join Burns upon his arrival.
McCarthy, who won the Harold Matthews Cup Coaches Award and led the Sharks to the Grand Final in 2022, is a strong candidate to make his NRL debut in the upcoming seasons. This season, McCarthy was named the SG Ball Cup Players’ Player of the Year.
He has been an important player for the Sharks this season, playing either in the heart of the pack as a front-rower or on the outside of the field as a second-rower.
“We’re thrilled that Max will have the opportunity to play with us at South Sydney. He is a young player who is ready to learn and ready to take the next step in his development,” Ellison continued.
“He possesses the size, talent, and strength of defense that we value in our forward rotation.
“The full-time training opportunity will help him develop more quickly and give him more chances to get into the NRL.”
“We wish Lachlan, Gerome, and Max the best of luck for the rest of their seasons in 2024 and are excited for them to join us in November.”
