In his podcast, Cooper declared, “I think he’s lazy.” “Remains passive when playing defense.”
In five games, the Mavericks were defeated by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals of 2024. Although Doncic is a gifted offensive player, his defense is subpar.
NBA insider Ramona Shelburne of ESPN claims that Doncic has been advised to quit complaining to officials, put in more effort on defense, and be in better shape by Jason Kidd and the Mavericks players.
“Over the course of his three seasons as Doncic’s coach, Kidd has imparted several truths to him, including the need to cease constantly criticizing officials, put forth a more constant effort on defense, and improve his physical condition so that he can perform to the best of his abilities when his team needs him,” Shelburne wrote. Kidd has made these remarks both in public and in private. Doncic’s colleagues in Dallas and on the Slovenian national team have also done so.
A five-time All-Star, Doncic shot 48.7% from the field, 38.2% from beyond the arc, and 78.6% from the free-throw line last season while averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.5 blocks for the Mavericks. In terms of points and points per game, he led the NBA.
With Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson leading the way, the Mavericks have a bright future. Thompson signed with Dallas this offseason after winning four titles with the Golden State Warriors.
Doncic needs to improve his physical condition and play better defense if the Mavericks are to win the championship. He doesn’t need to make any offensive adjustments. One of the best offensive weapons in NBA history, he is already.
With career averages of 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks, Doncic is a future Hall of Famer.

A basketball court in the northern Philippines has been transformed into a venue to commemorate one of Irving’s most memorable Dallas Maverick moments. Maya Carandang, the artist, has decided to create a mural on the court’s surface in remembrance of the guard’s heroics against the Denver Nuggets that ended up winning the game.
This project is a component of Carandang’s audacious plan to paint 100 similar murals on basketball courts throughout the Philippines, each of which will depict the spirit of the game and its most memorable events. Irving’s three-pointer was a logical option to open this game, considering it helped the Mavericks to a pivotal victory in the previous campaign.
The NBA player himself recognized and enjoyed the artistic tribute right once, complimenting the court’s vibrant portrayal of his clutch effort. Despite the mural’s remote location from Manila, the capital of the Philippines, Irving pledged to return there shortly. The Dallas Mavericks star said that all he needed was an invitation to view the artwork in person in a post published by ClutchPoints on X.

During his 13-year NBA career, Irving has played for clubs including Dallas, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics, accumulating an amazing resume. He was selected for eight All-Star Games, won one title, was the 2012 Rookie of the Year, and one MVP during that time.
