According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the $3.5 million contract is only guaranteed for the first season. Michael Lelchitski, Lauri Markkanen’s agent, is Mykhailiuk’s representative.
There are currently 14 players on contract with the Utah Jazz, including two two-way deals.
Report: Lauri Markkanen Trade With Jazz Was Not Seen As A High Priority by Heat or 76ers.
NBA reporter Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints claims that the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers did not actively pursue a trade including the Utah Jazz for Lauri Markkanen.
The Jazz never received an offer that made them think about selling Markkanen, who on August 7 agreed to a five-year, $238 million contract with Utah.
As of right present, Markkanen cannot be traded for the 2024–2025 season.
One of the top players in the NBA, Markkanen shot 48.0% from the field, 39.9% from beyond the arc, and 89.9% from the free-throw line in 2023–24 while averaging 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks for the Jazz.
With the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Utah Jazz, Markkanen—a one-time All-Star—has career averages of 18.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks. With Utah, he took home the 2022–23 Most Improved Player of the Year Award.
“Everyone, including the ownership, the front office, and Will (Hardy), has demonstrated their faith in me,” Markkanen said to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, an NBA insider. “Those guys have great resumes, and the atmosphere is relaxed.” I’m willing to take on the challenge and have faith in the organization to help me develop as a player as a person.
With Markkanen in the starting lineup, the Jazz are 54-67.
“The organization and city in Utah welcomed me right away after I was traded, and it’s been a family-oriented place — especially with me having my own little kids now,” Markkanen said to ESPN. “Learning basketball has been simple, both on and off the court. It’s been a terrific environment for me to develop personally, and I’ve been at ease creating all of these ties.
Paul George was signed by the Sixers via free agency. Now, George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey make up their “Big 3.”
The Heat, meanwhile, didn’t make any significant offseason acquisitions. The most prominent addition is Alec Burks, a seasoned player.
