All of the New York Yankees’ engines must be running high as they embark on their most recent postseason push. Regretfully, it appears that some of them aren’t carrying it out. Following Friday’s 8-5 defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays, second baseman Gleyber Torres made a mental error that led to his benching. Yankees captain Aaron Judge discussed the issue with reporters, including MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.

Judge declared, “If I know Gleyber, something like this ain’t going to happen again.” “He is proud of the job and skill that he does. He is undoubtedly unhappy with what transpired. For the remainder of his career, I venture to say, nothing similar will occur.

Everyone needs to be focused if the Yankees are to secure a postseason berth and pursue their pursuit of title number 28. It is an undeniable fact. However, it appears that Torres hasn’t been there recently. Torres thought he had hit a home run in the second inning of Friday’s loss, but the ball bounced off the wall instead of clearing it. Torres was oblivious, so the Yankees infielder was forced to stop at first.

Who knows how the game was affected by the turn of events. The Bronx Bombers’ record slipped to 65-46 after the loss, tying them at the top of the AL East standings with the Baltimore Orioles, their division foe. They would have entered today’s match with a half-game advantage if they had prevailed.

Yankees' Aaron Judge responds to concerning Gleyber Torres moment

Gleyber Torres’ time to remain a long-term member of the Yankees is running out.

But athletes like Torres need to lock in to get there. Judge and fellow celebrity Juan Soto cannot bear the whole burden. It was a wise decision to recruit former All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr., since the young infielder has so far garnered excellent praise for his play at third base. He might even end up replacing Torres at the keystone in the long run.

At the end of this season, the current second baseman for the Yankees will be a free agent. Along with Soto, other important players on the major league roster include outfielder Alex Verdugo. Torres might be playing elsewhere next season and beyond if he can’t concentrate and return to the peak of his career.

The Yankees are currently in relatively excellent shape despite all of their problems. At least according to the standings, where they presently hold the top spot in the Wild Card race and are co-leaders of their division. But in the postseason, having home field advantage is almost always advantageous.

Yes, the Texas Rangers’ 11-game road winning streak last year helped them win a World Series. However, given how many things had to go their way in order for them to succeed, that achievement is unlikely to be replicated. It won’t be luck that comes their way in New York. In the postseason, the 27-time world champions would much prefer defend Yankee Stadium.
