According to the transaction wire, WR Marquez Callaway has agreed to a contract with the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints designated TE Tommy Hudson as injured and waived him in response.

The 26-year-old Callaway started all four years at Tennessee and was chosen for the second team of the SEC. In the end, he joined the Saints in 2020 after going undrafted.

After the 2022 season, the team decided not to extend him a qualifying offer, despite the fact that he had been a member of the team the previous three seasons and out of the preseason.

Callaway was signed by the Broncos in March 2023, however he was cut after the preseason. After that, he spent some time with the Raiders practice squad before being cut again. He was back with the Saints.

He was signed by New Orleans to a futures contract in January 2024, but at the end of July, the team waived him.

Callaway made appearances in 14 games for the Saints in 2022, hauling in 16 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown on 32 targets.

Saints Snap Up Just-Released Steelers Wide Receiver

Marquez Callaway, a wide receiver that the Pittsburgh Steelers dismissed on Tuesday, has signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Callaway was released by Pittsburgh in two transactions that made room for veteran cornerback Josiah Scott and Callaway to enter the free agent market. The Steelers have done that in the past to give the veterans fresh places to land.

Although Callaway is new to this position during training camp, he is not new to anything in general. After going undrafted in 2020, Callaway signed a contract with the Saints, where he remained until the 2022 campaign. Despite moving around a bit in 2023, he ended up spending the entire season in New Orleans. He is currently back with the Saints.

In order to replace Callaway and assist with the aftermath following Roman Wilson’s ankle injury, the Steelers signed wide receiver Tarik Black. Pittsburgh is still searching for a wide receiver to fill the void, but offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is pleased with the players he has seen thus far.

Indeed, I believe that group in its whole. George [Pickens] has, in my opinion, advanced daily. Seeing him make that play at the end of the two-minute drive, as well as his development, thrilled me,” Smith remarked. George is an exceptionally innate football player.

I’ve really loved working with George so far; he has a great understanding of the game and many ways to employ him. He’s also producing. He plays a vital role in our offensive. The remaining players are a mix of tough-minded guys and experienced veterans. Van [Jefferson], without a doubt Dez [Fitzpatrick] appears. Quez Watkins and Scotty Miller are both employed. They are a hard-nosed bunch. Naturally, Calvin [Austin III]. He’s had a successful spring since I arrived at the program.

In addition, Callaway will make an effort to break into the Saints’ wide receiver group, which is thin on the depth chart. Thus, this presents Callaway with yet another chance to get traction in a known area.
