In the middle of passionate defenses of his sons and his time as the Buffs head coach, Deion Sanders named Charlie Offerdahl RB1 on the unofficial Colorado football depth chart during Big 12 media days. Offerdahl did not used to play on.

Sanders added, “You guys undervalue Charlie Offerdahl and look past him because he had the title of a walk-on; I don’t” (h/t The Coloradoan). “I consider a man to be who he is, not what his background is. Forget about his humble beginnings; he is now a scholarship player and the starting quarterback. They need to defeat him.

The transfer portal cost CU its entire running back room on scholarship during the offseason. Apparently, neither of their Power 4 transfers—Isaiah Augustave of Arkansas and Dallan Hayden of Ohio State—was able to establish themselves sufficiently to take a starting position. DB Offerdahl emerged victorious in the spring, but Colorado’s backup starter in the Black and Gold game was Isaiah Hardge.

Deion Sanders has faith in the Colorado football team’s veterans

Although it’s often believed that Sanders’ inflated ego makes him an impossible coach, Coach Prime has a history of supporting the team’s downtrodden underdogs when they step up to the plate. One thinks of Ryan Staub following the Utah game in Week 13. After the game, Sanders declared Staub to be starter material.

Offerdahl, who wasn’t a top pick out of high school, is the most recent player to be trusted in a significant role. Reeling in the big fish is just as vital as finding diamonds in the rough, and for every Jordan Seaton Sanders that the Buffs have acquired, there is an Offerdahl to balance things out on the other end.

From the backfield, there might be significant gains behind a revamped offensive line. An offensive line that has been redesigned may benefit Offerdahl, however pundits are divided on it as well.

Dan Patrick suggests that Deion Sanders stay with Colorado football for an additional year or two.

Before Deion Sanders leaves the Colorado football program, according to Dan Patrick, the team has to go through a full recruiting cycle without depending on the guys he brought in from Jackson State. Patrick thinks Sanders’ coaching abilities will be well-tested at Boulder for a further year or two.

Dan Patrick proposes one to two more years for Deion Sanders with Colorado football

Patrick responded to Paul Finebaum’s proposal that Coach Prime take Lincoln Riley’s place at USC in his remarks.

Lincoln Riley is disliked by Paul Finebaum. Thus, Patrick stated, “Now, he’s endorsing Deion Sanders rather than criticizing Lincoln Riley” (h/t On SI). “I’m not sure if he really thinks that. Paul has my respect. He certainly made headlines, as he has a knack of doing. I’d like to check if Deion is a coach. That’s not too much to ask, in my opinion. What if he attended a recruiting course?

“At least three years, possibly even four.” Travis Hunter went there, and you got your son to go there, but you were at Jackson State when you got them. It’s time for you to go find recruits. You now have to compete with everyone else. Do I think it would be fascinating to have him at USC in Los Angeles? Indeed. All I want to do is watch to see if he can play strategy, coach, and recruit. since they were lacking last year. The over/under for this year is 5.5.”

It makes sense on many ways for Dan Patrick to want Deion Sanders to play football at Colorado.

Sanders’s pal Patrick has access to him for interviews. Given that Coach Prime has publicly expressed his support for Sanders remaining at CU on multiple occasions, it makes sense that he is in favor of Sanders staying at the school.

However, there’s more: Patrick, like the Big 12, is a part of FOX Sports. For all parties concerned, including the business, it would be detrimental if Sanders left the Buffs.

Always go with the flow of money. Not that Patrick is being dishonest here, but always go with the flow of money.
