Dexter Lawson Jr., an American defensive back, has been released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

This season, the 190-pound, five-foot-ten defender started four games at field-side cornerback, making 16 defensive stops and one special teams stop. After the Tiger-Cats won their first game of the season last week against the Toronto Argonauts, he was placed on the practice roster.

In 2023, the Bloomfield, Connecticut native, 24, appeared in nine games for Hamilton, starting six of them. As a rookie, he recorded one interception, one defensive tackle, and 29 defensive stops.

Kelle Sanders, an American defensive lineman who dressed for the team’s season opener versus Calgary before being added to the practice squad, has also been released by the Tiger-Cats.

On Sunday, July 28, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-5) will play the Edmonton Elks (0-6) with start scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Ajou, Hendrix claim top scores in weekly CFL honour roll

TORONTO: The top performers in the CFL’s weekly honor list on Tuesday included defensive lineman DeWayne Hendrix of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and receiver Ajou Ajou of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

With an 81.3 grade, Ajou was the offensive player with the highest rating. In Saskatchewan’s 19-9 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week, he had four receptions for 110 yards.

Hendrix had an 87.8 mark, good enough for top defensive player honors. In Hamilton’s 27-24 home triumph over the Toronto Argonauts, the Ticats’ first win of the season, he racked up two tackles and a sack.

With a total score of 70.9, Saskatchewan’s offensive line was the highest ranked. The top three performers were Jacob Brammer (76.8), Logan Ferland (67.8), and Peter Godber (67.1). Brammer also received the highest individual mark.

Shea Patterson (80.0 grade) of Saskatchewan, William Stanback (79.2) of British Columbia, Micah Awe (74.1) of Calgary, Kobe Williams (81.2) of the Stampeders, Terry Williams (69.6) of British Columbia, Nik Constantinou (78.2) of Hamilton, and Tyson Hergott (90.6) of Toronto special teams were the other winners.

The CFL honor roll features players in nine different positions according to data points that are documented and aggregated by sports analytics firm PFF.
