If you’re as obsessed with Baltimore Ravens news as we are, you’ve undoubtedly heard the rumor that the team was set to sign Derrick Henry a year ahead of schedule.

The veteran Tennessee Titans tailback was signed by the Ravens in March to a two-year, $16 million contract with the possibility of up to $20 million in incentivized add-ons.

But according to a rumor that surfaced last week, in the middle of the previous season, Baltimore and Tennessee had established a verbal deal for Derrick Henry to go to Baltimore in exchange for a conditional third-round pick.

However, according to the article, the possible acquisition was shelved because a number of Titans upper-level executives opposed it.

However, Titans General Manager Ran Carthon said that all of this information was untrue.

Carter responded, “No, I wasn’t [offered that deal].”

We had many teams call about Derrick and offer things that weren’t worth taking or even considering; I don’t know where that came from, and that’s not my problem. I told Derrick this during that time.

However, we never made a deal with anyone to take any action that would move them.

So then, the first report was merely false information?

Actually, not that quickly.

Let’s go back to the Ravens’ product rollout event with Derrick Henry in March. Eric DeCosta, Carthon’s counterpart in Baltimore, reported trade discussions in the middle of the 2023 season.

DeCosta stated, “To be honest, we tried to trade for Derrick before the trade deadline.”

“It didn’t work out; I thought there was a reasonable chance that we would get a trade done.”

After hearing all three of the accounts, what actually transpired?

It sounds like this agreement came extremely close to happening, but only those in the room actually know for sure. However, it appears like the Tennessee side was a little too cautious with the trigger.
