Not ready to rule out quarterback, Montreal Alouettes Cody Fajardo has a hamstring injury.
Despite missing the team’s first practice after their bye week, quarterback Cody Fajardo is still expected to play for the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday against Saskatchewan, according to head coach Jason Maas.
After practice on Sunday, Maas told reporters, “I’m hopeful that anybody that’s here is going to play and everyone that’s not here is going to play by the end of the week.”
Fajardo appeared to have injured his right hamstring as he left Montreal’s Week 6 game against the Toronto Argonauts late in the first quarter. On his own initiative, he headed for the locker room but did not come back to the game.
The 32-year-old signal-caller was not visible at Stade Hebert in St-Leonard following a week off to recuperate, with backup Caleb Evans taking all of the first team reps in practice.
The offense would suffer a severe loss if Fajardo stays out of the game. In Montreal’s first six games, he has passed for 1,636 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions, helping the team win five straight games before he left. 24 times, he ran the ball for 142 yards and one touchdown.
The injury to the seasoned quarterback, which occurred over a brief week with only five days between games, added to the issue. Former Argonauts teammate and fellow quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson has made news by criticizing the CFL for neglecting player safety in their scheduling twice this season, citing the short turnaround times as the cause of significant injuries. Maas did not go so far as to blame the injury on the timing of the game, but he did criticize the pressures of playing in short weeks before losing his starter.
Coach stated, “I think that no matter what, you have the potential to get hurt or injured every game, so I’m not here to speculate on that.” “On a play that you don’t usually witness and get harmed on, he was hurt. You run the risk of getting hurt on every play you make during the season.
Fajardo was awarded Grey Cup MVP in his debut season in Montreal, when he passed for 3,847 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while aiding the Alouettes in winning their eighth straight championship. The Brea, California native has amassed 16,529 passing yards, 77 touchdowns, and 49 interceptions since joining the league in 2016. He has also rushed for 2,356 yards and 39 majors while playing for Toronto, B.C., Saskatchewan, and Montreal.
In place of Fajardo, Caleb Evans completed 12-of-22 passes for 127 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. If he is sidelined this week, Evans is expected to start. In order to meet the CFL’s quarterback requirement, rookie James Morgan was activated off the practice roster. Third-stringer Davis Alexander is another possibility under center.
In spite of the move and Fajardo’s noticeable absence, Maas maintained that his starting pitcher would not be decided upon until later in the week.
“We’re doing that because we have until game day or the day before to make that decision,” he stated. “We’re going to wait and see and hope that throughout the course of the week, Fajardo gets better with treatment.”

Packers Declare Three Players Out.
The Green Bay Packers were active on Friday as they prepared for the 2024 NFL season by strengthening their wide receiving corps.
The NFC North rival waived injured wide out Alex McGough in favor of signing receivers Rory Starkey and Jalen Wayne.
Samford product Starkey, a first-year acquisition, did well during a tryout at rookie minicamp in May.
He spent his first three seasons as a student at Penn, where in 2022 he was named to the Second Team All-Ivy League.
Wayne spent the previous offseason with the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and this year’s CFL Montreal Alouettes.

One of the NFL’s youngest and most skilled position groups is the one that Green Bay is playing around with.
Jaylen Reed led the club in catches (64) and receiving yards (793), making the most of his rookie season.
His eight touchdowns against Green Bay tied the record.
Romeo Doubs, a third-year wide receiver, was second on the Pack in 2023 in terms of yards (674 yards) and receptions (59).
With eight touchdown catches, he also shared the team lead in receptions.
Then there are Christian Watson and Dontayvion Wicks, two more young prospects who have the potential to be huge targets for rising star quarterback Jordan Love.
Of course, the secret to Wisconsin’s favorite team’s success in 2024 is love.
After eventually succeeding Aaron Rodgers in the starting lineup last season, he had an uneventful first half. However, he closed the season on fire, leading the Pack to an exciting road playoff upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
