Drag racer John Force is still receiving medical attention following a collision that caused him to suffer a brain injury at a National Hot Rod Association event in Virginia last weekend at speeds over 300 mph, as his family posted on social media on Thursday.

Drag racer John Force is still receiving medical attention following a collision that caused him to suffer a brain injury at a National Hot Rod Association event in Virginia last weekend at speeds over 300 mph, as his family posted on social media on Thursday.

The family announced on X on Thursday that Force has been transferred from the trauma intensive care unit to the neuro intensive care unit, “where the medical team can focus on his head injury, which is their primary concern.” In an announcement, his daughter Brittany stated she will not be competing at this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Ohio, preferring to spend time with her family at her father’s hospital bedside. According to John Force Racing, Force, 75, was driving his funny car in the first round of eliminations on Sunday when the engine blew up just after he crossed the finish line. Funny cars are a type of drag racing.

The burning car crossed the center line and struck both guard walls before coming to a stop.
