ESPN SAD NEWS: Phillies head coach Robert Lewis Thomson publicly announced his departure today.

Bryce Harper, the first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, caused things to get heated during Wednesday afternoon’s series finale between the Phillies and the San Francisco Giants.

In the upper fourth inning, with the Phillies leading 2-0, rookie Kyle Harrison, the starting pitcher for the Giants, got under Harper’s skin with two fastballs that went up and in. Harper was clearly agitated and yelled something at Harrison after the first heater buzzed him.

Though first ruled a hit-by-pitch, the second pitch arrived at the same spot and struck Harper’s bat knob. First baseman Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies caused a ruckus during Wednesday afternoon’s series finale between the Phillies and the San Francisco Giants. Giants trail the Phillies 2-0.

Both the Phillies and Giants dugouts gradually filled up, and although the bullpens extended all the way to home plate, it appeared that cooler heads would win out. That is, until Pat Burrell, the hitting coach for the Giants and a former Phillie, lost his temper. Fortunately, things didn’t work out and the teams split up.

To try to stop any more pranks, the umpires got together and warned both dugouts. Harper grounded out to end the inning when play resumed. It’s ironic that Harper’s mound charge against the Giants at Oracle Park seven years ago today. As you may remember, before the benches cleared and mayhem broke out, he attempted to hurl his helmet at San Francisco pitcher Hunter Strickland.
