A lot has been learnt about Kalen DeBoer by Alabama Crimson Tide supporters. Everything that has been discovered has been positive.

Greg McElroy, a former quarterback for Alabama, recently evaluated the chances of eight coaches winning a National Championship. At the FBS level, none of the eight has taken home a National Championship. The percentage likelihood that each of the eight coaches would win a Natty with their current program was projected by McElroy’s subjective exercise. Six out of the eight had odds of 40% or less, with Billy Napier at Florida receiving a 2% chance. Brian Kelly, at 50%, and Kalen DeBoer, at 75%, were the other two.

Dan Lanning (40%), Mario Cristobal (25%), Lincoln Riley (20%), Marcus Freeman and Brent Venables (10%) were the other five people below DeBoer and Kelly. When asked how long he thought Kalen DeBoer would take to earn a Natty, McElroy added to his prediction. These forecasts are merely educated approximations at best. G-Mac is familiar with both Alabama and football. Fans of the Crimson Tide should at least take note.

But let’s hold off on celebrating just yet. Winning a National Championship was an extreme challenge, even for Nick Saban. Riding a surge of excitement surrounding Alabama and DeBoer, are supporters of the Crimson Tide requesting too much too soon? DeBoer has an outstanding record when facing rated opponents. He’s been unbeatable by both Steve Sarkisian and Dan Lanning. This season, McElroy is optimistic about Sark and Texas. If Greg had predicted Sark’s success, it’s likely that he would have been in the 85%–90% range.
