This weekend, Formula 1 will go to Italy for the seventh race of the 2024 season.

After the 2023 race was postponed due to flooding, this is the first time Formula One has visited Imola in two years.

Lando Norris of Britain won his first Formula One race last time out in Miami.

Andrew Benson, the Formula One correspondent for BBC Sport, responds to your queries ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Could the grid become closer for the remainder of the season given the numerous enhancements that teams on the grid will receive at Imola? – Luke

Everyone in Formula 1 always says that the grid will get closer the longer a set of rules is in existence.

But under these current regulations, which were adopted with a particular plan to close the grid up and are currently in their third season, there hasn’t been much evidence of that at the head of the field. Compared to previous year, Red Bull has an even greater lead to start the season.

The McLaren team’s victory in Miami thanks to Lando Norris did, however, give some optimism that things would soon improve.

Prior to the Red Bull driver’s incident with a cone, which the team claimed damaged the vehicle, Norris appeared to be running at a pace that was comparable to or even quicker than Max Verstappen. McLaren had made significant improvements to their car for the Miami race.

The McLaren was, on average, slightly faster than the Red Bull over the three laps that separated Verstappen’s near-halt collision with the cone and Norris’s release due to Sergio Perez’s pit stop.

Is this a sign that McLaren will now occasionally take on Red Bull? Norris thinks he can triumph this time around. Even though they are downplaying its potential in public, Ferrari will also be making a big upgrade for the Emila Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.

The solution to this question may become more apparent after a few more races.
