SO SHOCKING: The unknown rugby player is now the most famous NFL representative in Britain today.
Travis Clayton, an unknown rugby player, is the newest NFL player to represent Britain. After being chosen 221st overall in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, he was transferred to the Buffalo Bills by eighth-tier rugby team Basingstoke.
Following his decision to join the Kansas City Chiefs and leave Wales’ national rugby union, Louis Rees-Zammit has garnered a lot of media attention. Clayton, however, is not the only British player who will be playing American football instead of rugby in the upcoming season.
The 23-year-old, who left Basingstoke to pursue his NFL dream, is eager to begin a new chapter in his life in the US. The Bills unexpectedly selected him in the draft, launching him from relative obscurity into the spotlight.
With a height of 7 feet 7 inches and a quickness that belied his size, Clayton attracted the attention of the Bills via the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. Although he was formerly a member of the NFL Academy in London, he has little experience playing American football.
