During Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, Denny Hamlin was caught in a puddle on the racing

course.

As he decelerated to pit road speed, Hamlin, one of seven cars to enter the pits simultaneously, lost control and made a passing contact with John Hunter Nemechek. Hamlin explained to his crew that his spin was caused by a puddle he ran into as he entered pit road.

On his podcast, “Actions Detrimental,” Hamlin gave an explanation of how the puddle came to be in the first place. He said that NASCAR had long since dried out the racetrack following a prolonged period of heavy rain over the weekend.
