At 36 years and 321 days old, Djokovic set a new record as the oldest player to be ranked first in the ATP rankings. He surpassed Roger Federer, who was 36 years and 320 days old in 2018, when he rose to the top rank.
According to Tennis.com, Djokovic is one of eight men’s tennis players who have reached the top of the rankings while in their 30s. Federer is joined by Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, John Newcombe, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, and Andy Murray. Agassi and Nadal were 33 years old when they reached the top of the rankings, while the other tennis stars were all 30.
Now, the Serbian tennis star is preparing for the French Open.
He lost to Luca Nardi in the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells, and he was eliminated from the Australian Open by eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
The Monte-Carlo Masters is next on Djokovic’s itinerary. The opening round starts Tuesday.
The next Grand Slam on the schedule for the sport is the French Open. The competition begins on May 20.
Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles, the most of any male player. Nadal is second with 22, while Federer had 20 before retiring.
