For his first three seasons, Simon was a member of the Quebec Nordiques. After the squad relocated to Denver in 1995–96, he remained with the team until the end of the championship season. He went on to play for the Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals, among other clubs. Simon played in the Coors Light Stadium Series alumni game in 2016 while wearing an Avalanche uniform.

In a statement, Joe Sakic, the president of the Avalanche Team, called Simon a “beloved teammate” who will be “sorely missed.”

“Chris was a really good hockey player who could score goals, was a big presence in the dressing room and was the first person to stand up and defend his teammates,” Sakic stated.

Simon died on Monday evening.
