In the past, the New England Patriots were the NFL’s cornerstone and gold standard.

However, things are shifting, and Foxborough is entering a new chapter. A few years ago, Tom Brady departed the team. Bill Belichick, the mastermind behind the Patriots’ dynasty, quickly followed after a dismal 4-13 campaign.

Nonetheless, New England is well-positioned to make a difference. They came into this offseason with a ton of cap space to deal with and the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They re-signed Michael Onwenu, a standout offensive lineman, using some of that space. The Patriots’ greatest offseason decision to date was that one. What was confusing, though, was the compensation they received in exchange for trading Mac Jones.

The Patriots’ offensive line, as it currently stands, could not absorb the loss of its greatest player. They took care to prevent such apocalyptic situation because of this. One of the NFL’s most underappreciated offensive linemen is Michael Onwenu. Over the past two seasons, he has proven to be a sturdy right tackle.

However, New England is at least in a good position to make a difference. With a ton of cap money to work with this summer, they have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They re-signed outstanding offensive lineman Michael Onwenu using some of that space. That was the best offseason decision the Patriots have made thus far. However, the amount they received in exchange for trading Mac Jones was unclear.
