Suddenly, the AFC North may have the most exciting, or at least the finest, quarterback group in all of football.

After being released by the Denver Broncos, nine-time Pro Bowl pick Russell Wilson will try to rebuild his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Justin Fields, a Chicago Bears trade-in, will try to steal the starting position from him.

Meanwhile, Joe Burrow and Deshaun Watson of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns, respectively, are also making a comeback from injuries that ended their seasons.

Of course, there is also Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, who just won his second career NFL Most Valuable Player Award and is attempting to recover from a subpar showing in the AFC championship game in order to make his long-awaited maiden trip to the Super Bowl.

Less widely reported was the departure of Tyler Huntley, the former backup quarterback for the Ravens, who signed a one-year contract paying the veteran minimum on Sunday to join the Browns.

It’s obvious the Ravens had little interest in signing Huntley, one of their more than 20 unrestricted free agents heading into the offseason, to a fifth year given how little Cleveland paid. Even though he would have added familiarity, Baltimore was aware of its assets, so maybe that was the issue.

While Jackson was out due to injury, Huntley started 10 games for the Ravens over the previous three seasons, going 3–7 during that time.

This featured the January 2023 AFC wild-card game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals, in which defensive end Sam Hubbard returned a sacked Huntley 98 yards for the game-winning touchdown on a third-and-goal play from the 1-yard line early in the fourth quarter.

In the regular season, he completed 64.6% of his throws for 1,957 yards and eight touchdowns after being signed by Baltimore as an undrafted rookie out of Utah in 2020.
