Why limit yourself to using the knife and bottle opener on your basketball team when you have access to scissors, a can opener, a screwdriver, a corkscrew, and maybe a few more tools you’re not even aware exist?

Luka Dončić was frequently utilized as a forward for Real Madrid. He frequently played the three on the Slovenian national team, both with Goran Dragic and in his absence last summer. What if the Mavericks used him more frequently as the three in spurts, exploiting his versatility to make defenses adjust?

 

Among the world’s top point guards is Luka Dončić. His complete command of the game is one of the elements that contributes to his dominance.

It is by no means a leap to say that Luka can play the one through five positions rather effortlessly right off the gate against most opponents, as his time in Madrid and on Slovenia’s national team have demonstrated. Dallas is now attempting to reduce his use by having other players advance the ball up the court, but what if they supported Luka Dončić even more, making him a secondary initiator and encouraging him to shoot (or perhaps power) forward?

Dončić would not only avoid having to shoot the ball up the court, but it would also capitalize on many of his other abilities. More significantly, though, it would give Dallas another weapon in its toolkit and make opposing defenders fumble and adjust.
