Head coach: Rick Barnes explain why he want to leave Tennessee basketball.
On Saturday, the senior class was recognized by Tennessee basketball. This year’s Vols squad features a solid group of leaders, and they were coming into the game on a seven-game winning streak after defeating South Carolina, Alabama, and Auburn. They won an SEC Championship earlier this week thanks to their victories over the best teams in the conference.
The Vols faced their adversary, the Kentucky Wildcats, in the last game of their grueling gauntlet challenge. Another sellout crowd in Thompson-Boling Arena witnessed the Vols’ 84-81 loss to the Wildcats to close the regular season. The Vols had trouble scoring, but in the closing moments, Kentucky was unstoppable.
From an offensive standpoint, Tennessee got off to a scorching start in the contest. During the first five minutes of the match, Tennessee hit 1 for 8 from
court. Tennessee shot 1 for 8 from the field in the first five minutes of the contest. Dalton Knecht’s three-pointer, the only attempt made, established Tennessee’s offensive strategy.
The Vols defense gave Kentucky’s offense time to get going, and the Wildcats likewise started slowly. Kentucky quickly found themselves in foul trouble as they attempted to match Tennessee’s toughness. Despite Kentucky’s foul issues, the Vols were unable to fully capitalize on it since they had trouble shooting the whole game.
