Carlos Alcaraz just announced his retirement due to…
Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, both looked good as they advanced to the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Sunday.
Felix Auger-Aliassime was defeated 6-2 6-3 by world No. 2 Alcaraz, extending his winning run to eight matches in the desert.
The Spaniard’s next opponent is Fabian Marozsan in the fourth round, where Alcaraz hopes to get revenge for their shocking loss to the Hungarian in Rome in May.
“I believe that he didn’t score very many points off his serves. After defeating the Canadian’s opening serve for 46% of the points (16–35), Alcaraz remarked, “I think he lives with his serve.”
“I played the point on nearly every return. I sensed that I can score some excellent points from the baseline and that I’m superior to him, and I believe it went well. I made fewer mistakes and played aggressively. I believe it was practically a perfect fit for me.”
“People have discussed the weather and the desert air here, but he likes these conditions. In order to keep Auger-Aliassime guessing and prevent him from developing any kind of routine, he was able to control his speed, turning points around, and occasionally executing a serve-and-volley.
