In an article published by Mike Puma of the New York Post, it is stated that Dykstra, a 1986 World Series winner and three-time former All-Star, is conscious and able to communicate with ease after speaking with former teammates Daryl Strawberry and Kevin Michell.

Strawberry stated, “He knew it was me, so that is always a good sign,” according to Puma. “He is currently recuperating.”

Mitchell said, according to Puma, “He’s laying down, but he is being Lenny.” We now reach an age where we must look after ourselves. I advised him to look after himself more. You can’t allow tension to get to you. He’s experienced a lot. I adore him unconditionally.

In recent years, the 1993 NL Champ has struggled with legal difficulties.
An important member of the beloved 1993 squad that played the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, the hard-nosed Dykstra was lovingly referred to by his moniker “Nails” by supporters and former teammates. Dykstra won over the region with his rugged on-field play and blue-collar antics, as did teammates Mitch Williams, John Kruk, Darren Daulton, and Curt Schilling.

Since retiring, Dykstra has struggled both on and off the field. Baseball players linked to steroid use were investigated by the Mitchell Report in 2007, which came out before drug testing was made mandatory in the sport. Dykstra was one of those players.

In 2009, Dykstra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy; in 2013, he was sentenced to prison for bankruptcy fraud. In June 2011, Dykstra was charged with grand theft auto and possession of drug paraphernalia, and he was convicted of fraud shortly after his arrest.

After an altercation with an Uber driver in 2018, Dykstra was once more taken into custody and accused of making third-degree terrorist threats. Later, the accusations were withdrawn.

And Dykstra made headlines once more in November 2023 when he was threatened with eviction for not paying hundreds of dollars in overdue rent on a lavish home he was renting.

During his eight seasons with the Phillies, Dykstra stole 169 bases in 734 games while hitting.289 with 51 home runs and 251 RBI. He was also selected to all three of his All-Star teams.

I believe I can speak for many Phillies supporters when I say that I hope Lenny fully recovers and is able to get past some of the problems he has encountered recently.
