K.J. Wright, a former linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, announced on YouTube on Monday morning that he had been hired by the 49ers to serve as their assistant linebackers coach and defensive quality control coach.

The 49ers’ plan to promote Nick Sorensen to defensive coordinator was first announced a few days ago. From 2013 to 2020, Sorensen was the Seahawks’ head coach for a number of years, including the notorious “Legion of Boom” era in which Wright was the team’s starting linebacker.

From 2011 to 2020, the 34-year-old Wright was a member of the Seattle Seahawks, winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the team. He signed a one-day deal to retire with the Seahawks in 2022 after concluding his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.

Wright’s career ended with 992eleven forced fumbles, six interceptions, 13.5 sacks, and total tackles. With the 49ers, Wright takes on a new job that launches his coaching career.
