The Carolina tar heel head coach Hubert DAVIS announced his departure….

At the Smith Center on Saturday, North Carolina overcame its second-largest halftime deficit of the year to defeat NC State 79-70.

Harrison Ingram scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Tar Heels in scoring. 15 points and seven assists came from Elliot Cadeau, 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists from RJ Davis, and 13 points and seven rebounds from Armando Bacot. Carolina held NC State to 22.2 percent shooting from the field in the second half, following a first-half shooting percentage of 57.6 percent for the Wolfpack. During the second half, NC State failed to make a field goal for over 10½ minutes as UNC overcame a 10-point hole to lead by as many as 13 points.

The defense has been the team’s main source of energy throughout the entire season. That is a topic I discuss. That’s what our team stands for, and it’s what I preach. We need to improve our defensive play, grab rebounds, and handle the basketball if we want to be the best team possible. But we took a stronger defensive stance, you know. Then we took it up a notch in the second half, and I thought we were making them work so hard to get a shot that we were giving them the opportunity to miss. Our presence on the ball was making them fall short, and I had the impression that when things got a little chippy, it also sparked us a little.
