The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets squared battle on Tuesday night. Luka Doncic scored almost 40 points and finished with a triple-double, helping the Mavericks defeat their in-state rival 121-115.
Kyrie Irving’s 27 points and five assists had a significant impact on the match. All night long, Irving performed a fantastic job of slicing through Rocket defenses to get easy layups. Irving would also play excellent defense, helping the team win with a steal and a block
When he was on the floor, Derrick Jones Jr. made a significant impact off the bench. He scored 15 points and pulled down six rebounds in his 34 minutes of play. Jones Jr. harassed Houston’s rebounding capabilities the whole evening, giving the Mavericks numerous opportunities to convert on second chances.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are at last receiving the national attention they merit.
With a game-high 41 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, Doncic took the lead. Doncic was ruthless when he was on the floor, taking aim at defenders regardless of who was in front of him. He was always looking for wide spaces to attack and make simple shots.
The Mavericks and their two great players have not received much national notice, despite their 11-6 start. Tim Legler and Stephen A. Smith talk about the Mavericks’ recent success and why this start is no accident in a portion of ESPN’s First Take.
Stephen A. and Legler also talk about Jason Kidd’s post-game remarks to a reporter throughout the segment.
The Mavericks also have some amazing statistics in the fourth quarter especially from beyond the arc. Legler and Stephen A. talk about how the Mavericks are only behind the Boston Celtics in the NBA in terms of 3-point shooting efficiency.
For the first time this season, the Mavericks are finally garnering some national notice. It’s understandable why, given how good Doncic and Irving are playing. Even though the Mavs still have some gaps to fill, particularly on defense, they have figured out a winning recipe after 17 games.
