So sad: the tar heel head coach Hubert Davis announced his departure and also….

Coach Mack Brown has already drawn comparisons between the leadership characteristics of Georgia

transfer Blaske and the priceless attributes of former UNC offensive lineman Corey Gaynor, who started at center and guided the Tar Heels for the previous two seasons. Brown stated that occasionally he watches Blaske practice snaps with new Carolina quarterback Max Johnson, the transfer portal addition from Texas A&M and LSU, when he looks out from his office on the fourth floor of Kenan Football Center.

As a leader, Austin has excelled. This month, Brown stated, “He has blended in.” “His attitude has really, really pleased me. In a brief tenure, he has proven to be an excellent leader. He was assisting us with hiring. I adore his attitude since he wanted to accomplish everything and go everywhere. He reminds us a lot of Corey Gaynor and the tenacity and enthusiasm that Corey brought to the room when he arrived.

Blaske, who stands six feet five and weighs 310 pounds, has committed to the Tar Heels with two seasons left of college eligibility. During the last three seasons, he participated in eighteen games for dominant Georgia, the national winners of the College Football Playoffs in 2021 and 2022. Entering the 2023 season, Blaske faced off against Earnest Greene III for Georgia’s starting left tackle spot. Greene was appointed, and Blaske was only able to play in three games due to injuries.

Blaske claimed that when he was debating whether to transfer to UNC, he conferred with offensive line coach Stacy Searels of Georgia. From 2019 to 21, Searels served as a member of the coaching staffs at Carolina under Brown. He then left to accept the same role with Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs. Blaske stated that he would rather play inside as a guard or center next season than on the outside as a tackle, and he was vehement about this to certain transfer site pursuers. During the transfer process, he claimed that UNC and Georgia Tech emerged as his top choices.
