SAD NEWS: Tar heel head coach Jason Kidd announced his departure and also….

The Dallas Mavericks have now won seven straight games after defeating the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night.

They have also vaulted out of the play-in race and into sixth place in the packed Western Conference.

Four straight victories after acquiring PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford at the NBA Trade Deadline are interspersed among that seven-game winning streak. Gafford’s and Washington’s efforts against the Suns were negligible.

They scored just 16 points apiece in the 123-113 victory. But if you sign with a team that already has Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, those two players will probably be the ones doing the bulk of the work.

Doncic and Irving combined for 70 points on 25 of 45 shooting against Phoenix, which included a flawless 9 of 9 from the charity stripe and an 11 of 19 from three-point range.

Daniel Gafford made it very evident after the game that he had cast his unofficial MVP vote for the mid-season, and Luka Doncic had recorded his eighth game of the season with a 40-point double-double.

When questioned about his new teammate Luka Doncic after the game, Gafford responded, “To me, he’s the MVP” (h/t ESPN’s Tim McMahon). “I’m just in awe of what he and Kyrie can accomplish.” I feel like a child in a candy store as I watch these two outstanding guys simply go out and dominate.
